Thread....are you talking about the actual hinges on the top of the lift gate? My '06 is in for the third time on this issue. This time it's been there for 8 days! Right now the rear window is out awaiting a part for reinstallation. Reading your posts it sounds like we have the same issue although when I rode in the back and removed the trunk liner panels where the tail lights were the rattle was MUCH louder. Could still be a result of the hinges though because the hinges are outside of the hatch gasket so noise (like rainwater) would travel that way.

dudes, none of this is working for my 05 tc rs1.0....i just took my headliner down by the rear dome light, went for a drive. didn't change a thing. the rattle comes from the rear somewhere by the latch...has a glass tapping sound for me....i had a thought...could it be the little metal tie down things in the rear by the tail lights? if you tap on one of the little rungs, that's the sound that sounds most like what i'm hearing....i'll go road test that and report back

Ive got the same general rattle problem that you are all talking about. I was thinking about finding the specific spot that it is coming from by using 2 styrofoam cups and a string. You know, what you used to do in kindergarten. Yes, i know that you are all laughing right now, but I want to find the exact spot it is coming from. I don't trust someone just laying in the back of my car. I think that this method might work to find the exact cause of the problem. Taking care of the problem is another thing.

So far I have tried the foam tape on the rubber bumper, that worked for a while. I also tried putting electrical tape around the latch, that helped a little. I also tried using silicon spray on any touching parts of the hatch between the body. I still get that damn noise. If you want to try any of my solutions, let me know how they work.

Scon the area he is talking about , you can see it if you remove the two plugs that are in the rear part of the headliner on both sides of the rear dome light , when you LIGHTLY pull down on the headliner you will see the bolts and hinges for the rear hatch

I should take a look at those hinges too - that's about where my rattle is comign from, but I need someone who can drive a stick to drive my car around so I can listen to where those creaks are coming from. This stuff drives me totally nuts!

Anyone with the extra air bags know if it's ok getting to those bolts?

Hey guys...all about rattling and stuff...I got in a car accident in July and involved me getting a new door skin on my passenger door. I went to a certified toyota place to get it repaired but now that i have my baby back every time i shut the passenger door, it sounds hollow. It doesnt sound hollow on the drivers side door. Is there something wrong with the installation or does it sound like that because it is a dif. door?! Also, the trim around the window on the passenger side doesn't stay down. I will roll my window down and then when i roll it back up the trim pops up a little. Quite annoying if you ask me! If anyone knows anything about this please write me back...i dont like my baby broken!

Blk5spdtc Yeah my passenger side door does the same except mine when you shut it with the window down it sounds like the glass is gonna fall out of the track . Like usual I took it to the dealership and was told NOTHINGS WRONG ITS FINE . Ha tell me another line . I took the door panel off and looked inside myself and I didnt notice anything that might cause the rattle . Sounds like the window glass is rattling and slamming into metal . Im sure when it breaks they will tell me its my fault LOL

TCRS1_0 Thanks for the info! Haha! I think when i get to go back home for longer than a weekend (cause im down at Georgia Southern for school) im gonna def. go back to the place that fixed the door and def. _____ at them! I'll be sure to say something about the glass breaking and get in writing that if that does happen, they are paying for it! I hadn't even had my car for 4 months and already $3,000 worth of damages! No way that this car is gonna start becoming my old P.O.S. ANY time soon...i love it too much!!! Thanks again!

if you have a rattle in the hatch area, i'm betting a dollar it underneath this plastic piece thats highlighted

there is some wiring wrapped in loom thats clipped on the metal panel beneath. i figured thats the culprit when I was dynamatting my system, lol...u can stick a rag behind it or whatever u want to stop it from hitting the panel...i used dynamat since i was dynamatting the trunk...you guys check it out and let me know if it works for you.

OK this is strange . The popcorn seed hitting glass sound is now gone after I did the rear hatch panel pop off and redid the clips (remove the two philips screws and readjust the big plastic piece on the rear hatch . Maybe it has something to do with the heat or maybe I am just celebrating to soon . But I dont have it now , just the light noise of the hatch moving and so forth over bumps . Now on to the window rattle and I will be satisfied when thats fixed . I might actually keep it now LOL

TCRS!_0......are there any pictures of what you are talking about or can you be more specific? Popcorn seek hitting glass is the best description I've heard yet for my rattle...maybe I have the same problem. Mines been at the dealer for almost THREE WEEKS for this problem!!!

I wish you luck in your fix. Many of us have found this rattle(s) to be very sneaky and comes back within 1-3 days. I have tried many of the hatch fixes only to see it come back after applying the fix.

But I have at least isolated mine to the dome light area where Dachmo also found another one of his rattles. The problem is trying to find this rattle and applying a fix. But for this rattle if you let the dome light just hang and hold down on the metal bar in front of dome light, the rattle goes away. All the bolts, etc look tight and there is not much room for the hand to feel any loose parts, etc.

Default Passenger Side Rattling

I just purchased my 06 tC exactly a month ago and I have had to bring it back in 2 times now to have a rattling noise checked out. The first time they looked at it they said it was a busted strut and the hatch cylinder on the passenger side. The second time (currently) they are saying it's the hatch cyclinder AGAIN. I'm reading all of your posts and it seems that the dealership isn't doing their homework. Either way, I wanted to find out when you all purchased your tC's and if it's a universal design error or if possibly we all got a bad batch of cars around the same time.

Let me know because I'm getting really frustrated and I will not take "Sorry, there's nothing more we can do" for an answer after spending the money to buy a brand new car.

Thank you much!
