Default I hope Toyota discontinues the tC next year.

I've really thought about it a lot. I think the tC is a beautiful car, and it's still uncommon in most areas. Most folks don't really know what it is. Compare that with the Civic, which while a great car in it's own right, is so common to be as boring as sliced bread. Even other beautiful cars are now so common as to be boring: the Corvette, the Mustang, the 350z, all the gorgeous Lexus and Nissan coupes... What is the Enzo such a sought after and stunning automobile to behold? Because there are SO FEW.

I'd like to have, some years down the road, a relatively rare, beautiful, well kept tC, instead of "just another Civic."

I hope they replace it with a tD in '08, and I hope the tD looks very different.

It would really be a great marketing strategy, if you think about it. If you love the look of a particular Scion, go buy it NOW before it's discontinued. Compare that to someone who is thinking about getting a Civic. There will always be another Civic for sale, why buy this year, why not wait until next year and keep the old clunker running a while longer?

I hope they keep the tC around. That way, aftermarket parts will be cheaper because there will be more demand.

well, its a known fact that 2008 model will be the last model for the tC. Obviously they wouldnt keep the car around forever.

well known? did toyota publicly state this? i dont think so. you're probably referring to the xb and xa's run of 3 years for a 'generation' it may be possible that its ending in 2008 but thats never been publicly stated.

Toyota's usually redesign every 4-5 years. It's more radical in it's sport segment. Look at every generation of Celicas 86-89, 90-93, 94-99, 00-05, they look very different from each other, also MR2's, 85-89, 91-95, 00-05, radically different. They tend to be more conservative on the "everyday" cars such as the camry and corolla.

I would expect a modest to somewhat drastic redesign in 08 for the tC. I'm hoping that they will listen to the market and if it can profit them, or give them "street cred". make a true limited series, such as a v6, an extra gear, etc.

yeah... i don't know of any public annoucements for sure yet... but the xB and xA are indeed rumored, if not a fact, to be phased out in the next few years... with the xB being replaced with something larger i heard..

sad to say that the xA doesn't get much praise as it should have..

as for our beloved tC... yeah... Scion's gonna keep it around for awhile...

Yeah I don't think they spent all that money in R&D and designing/advertising the tC only to discontinue it in a few years. As much as you hate hearing this the tC is not going to be a classic car. It may not be as common as a Civic or a Mustang, but that's probably because the Scion brand and the tC name hasn't caught on to everybody in the market.

The tC was marketed to be an affordable, yet stylish, compact car with average performance. It was never meant to be a collector's item.

Lots of cars are uncommon im many areas, while being far too common in other geographies.

In my opinion, it's already too late for the tC, they're already too common. This is especially true in SoCal, most definitely in San Diego, as I'm seeing at least a few each day during the short 4 mile drive to/from work. They're everywhere, might as well be driving a civic or mustang, in regard to rarity.

But they're going to sell even more, and since the tC is so popular and value priced, pretty soon there will be one waiting at every stoplight.

Demographics and attention. We see it because we know of it's existense. Like when you learn of a new word or person, it seems that for the next week or so you hear it often.

Here in my area, probably about 30,000 people or so, I only know / have seen of 6 tC's.

The tC and the Prius are in no way a "goldmine for sales". The tC very well could be, but they do not produce enough. They make just enough so that they can make a profit and learn more about the Gen y buyer. Next to the Camry, Corolla, sequouia and Tundra and so on the profit made on Scions is pretty measly. I am not saying that they aren't making money off of the tC, but comparitivly (sp?) its not a goldmine.

The prius on the other hand Toyota actually does not make any money on when you factor all the money that went into R&D on this car. The point of the Prius was to get america ready for Hybrid. They make a select number of them and sell them at a very reasonable price. Then in a few years they can put that technology in the Camry, Highlander, Tundra and so on and make a bigger profit on it since it is a proven technology. The dealerships on the other hand are making HUGE profits on the Prius as most pay over the MSRP to get one.

I believe that the tC will have another couple of years and then be replaced completely.

I think they will replace it in 08, rumor has it toyota will be racing in wrc for the 07 season with a 2.4l turbo all wheel drive corolla. So I hope some of this trickles down to scion of the replacement model for the tc or a new redesigned one...

I beg the differ. Toyota and Scion dealerships, at least around here, can't keep the Prius or Scions on the lot. As soon as one comes in, it is sold. I know that some places even have lists of people to call when one comes in. When they sell used for more than new, you have done something right. They are controlling the amount of cars on the market and not flooding the market. This way, the cost stays up when I go to trade in my Scion years down the road. It is no surprise Toyota is getting close to becomming the number one automaker in the world.

Scion would be stupid to discontinue the car. Marketing wise it would be a disaster.

Sorry to burst ur bubble, but the car will be around for years to come. How long I have no clue.

Its like saying u should run face first into a wall for the start up of this thread, but it probably wont happen.

the scion peeps already said that they will be changing each model out every 4 or so years to stay "fresh".
I read that from a news story that was posted here a while back.

there is also a saying that reads:
"Its better to change out the players too early in the game, than keeping them in too late."

and just cause they spent "so much money on R&D" for the tC doesn't mean that getting rid of it in 08/09 would put it to waste.
not at all.

and where on earth did you pull tD from.

I think he wants his car unique for the time being, but in reality they are everywhere.
