Where are you from?
What are the tint laws in that state?
Is your tint in voilation of those laws?
If so, yes, you must remove it to show the cops. If it isnt in violation of those laws, do you have documentation to show it isnt?

Answer these questions to answer yours.

I just got one too. You don't need to take it off unless it says so on the ticket. I just had to pay a fine. Sometimes, they will void the fine if you take it off and have an inspection station sign off on the work. That would be called a "equipment repair order". Just read the ticket carefully. You most likely just have to pay a fine and avoid driving in that area for the life of your car.

so um i'm curious.
do they hit your tint with a light gun that reads out its rating so they know if its legal or not?
or are the cops just GUESSING.
if your tint is in LEGAL range just show up to court with the documents to prove that and your fine. if not....silly monkey...

In some states I believe it is "per the officers observation" meaning if the officer thinks the tint is too dark or that, for another example, your exhaust is to loud, they can write you a citation. The burden of proof falls to us, the owners of the vehicle to show that it is in good legal standing.

This may not be the case in bearcats87's state, but I don't know that. Either way, if they are legal and can prove it, they should be solid. If they are legal then yes, silly monkey.

Sry, noob here, are the tint laws in accordance with what state the car is registered in or where your home is? I'm stationed in another state and here is 35% front any for rears and back. However my homestate is 27% all around. So my car is registered here in NV, but my home of rec. is in SC, so which laws do I have to follow?

in texas they have these little meter things that slide about an inch down the window and actually show the % of that that was let through
I have witnissed it first hand
Mine was legal by 1%!!!!
And i think that was only because its probably lightened up a little over the course of about a year and a half that ive had it

In CA, some cops get your driver's license then put it at the back of the tinted window, then if they can't read a thing written on your license, then you're F***** up.

I'm guessing the OP is in a totally tint-free state (like PA or Cali or whatnot), and as such, ANY tint would screw him.

In Michigan where I live now its illegal to have any tint on the "front 3 windows any further down than 4 inches" says the sherrif that pulled me over. Fortunately I didn't get a ticket, but I sure as hell wouldn't change my tint.

I also know that in Florida its 23% or something around there(i have 20% and it was done in miami)the system that I was told by the police they use to detirmine whether or not its legal is that if they can see the gender/race/approximate age of the person driving, its legal. that seems to carry over into a lot of other states as well.

Florida is 28% front 2 , 15% rear quarter glass, then unlimited on the rear most (hatch/trunk) glass. You could paint the back window black and no one would care.

For the most part though, you could tint 5% and few officers would care around here. It's pretty lax in Florida

Call any glass tint place and they can tell you the State requirements.......I used to install and it varies by state and in some cases County...........

In most states though..........the officer has to be able to see through your window......it is a officer safty thing.........best idea is to roll down window before he gets to car...........and smile.........

Don't just assume that you can pay the fine and be on your way. Make sure the ticket doesn't require you to remove it and pay the fine. It is all in the details. If you just pay the fine and keep the tint, you may end up getting a bigger fine the next time a cop says something about your tint. Just make sure you check the ticket before doing anything.

Also, the fine should be written on the ticket otherwise what you may have recieved was a notice to having something fixed/changed which means you would prolly need to remove your tint and have the cops look at it to verify. Same thing happens when a tailight is out: they give you a repair notice, you get it fixed, and show them and your all set.

In my state, tint is illegal in the front windows...well, the tC pretty much consist of front windows lol, so people do it. Cops around here dont care enough to pull over someone for that, because its pretty stupid.
