Default If a dealer says they will call you the next day and don't..

Just wondering what everybody's opinion is on this...

All my local dealers are sold out of tC's. However, one of them has a sales associate who personally owns one. They said I could take a look at his and then decide whether or not I wanted to order my own.

The dealer said he would call me today to let me know if the sales associate would be there (for later tonight if I took a drive over). I'm leaving work now so I called the dealer to ask if the sale associate would be there. He still hasn't returned my phone call.

If this dealer doesn't call me back by tomorrow night, I now have the option of driving 45 minutes to another dealer that has a new tC (not the color I want though). This other dealer sounds VERY friendly and comes VERY highly recommended. The only "problem" is that it's 45 minutes away and my current dealer is 5 minutes away. Plus, I already told my current dealer I would take a look at his.

If you were me, would you ditch my current dealer and drive over to the other dealer?

i would def go somewhere that makes you feel welcome. keep in mind that this will be the first of MANY times that you deal with them. If they dropped the ball this early in the game...think what it will be like when you are calling them with questions once they already have your money. i say move on.

Are you worried of hurting the salesperson's feelings? Go to the other dealer if they are making you feel more welcome. I had a similar situation, I have a Toyota dealership literally 3 blocks from my house and they said they could let me "see" a tC, but not drive it because they wanted to make sure I was gonna buy it (I was like...WTF?), I told them I would be there at 4 pm. I called another dealership, they said they had a demo and I could test drive and spend some time looking at it...needless to say, I drove 55 miles test drove the tC, had a really good conversation with a knowledgeable salesperson, 2 weeks later I picked up my tC from that dealership.

I would go to the one 45 minutes away without a doubt!!

The last thing you want souring your car's purchase is some cheesehead who cannot even return a call from a prospective buyer.

I went to all the Scion dealerships in Tampa before settling for a dealer in Clearwater, 35 minutes from my house as well

Go with the one that wants your business and is willing to work for it ;)

I got lucky, and found a great dealer not too far from where I live, but I was prepared to go to my parents house in MD to buy if I couldn't find a decent dealership.

I did plenty on ~45 min. drives to other dealers before purchasing my tc, it is definately worth it. Your are investing in an expensive piece of equipment. And yeah, if the current dealer is not doing his job by accomodating to an interested customer. If they call you back, tell them that after they blew you off, you found another dealer. If they really want to make a sale, they will stay on your nuts (calling you constantly) until they know you bought a car.

Remember you are the customer and they should be waiting for you, not the reverse.
