Good luck getting a kit painted and installed for $1k. Maybe a new bumper or possibly lip kit.

If I had $1k, I'd be getting wheels!

 

^ i agree with that. i think some wheels and springs if you dont have that already would be a good way to invest 1k. a nice set of wheels tho will very likely run you over a grand though! whatever you do, do it for you!!

 

You can get decent wheels starting at $500. Depends on what you want to get though. There are a lot of nice affordable wheels out there.

 

Sorta like mine. I got my wheels and tires for 838 shipped, and that's with 7% florida sales tax added in.

kit painted? i thought they came in the car's color if i get it from the scion dealership...?

 

If you get the OEM lip kit, yes, they do come painted. But that's $1k right there - no install.

 

if you want to go the aftermarket lip route, i got my rs1 lip kit for just over 400 shipped, and then had it and my interior pieces painted for 360. installation i did myself with a friend.

nope. dealer installation will kill you.

there are complete lip kits that have a piece for each part of the body. mine has a front and rear lip and then 2 side skirt pieces.

 

A "body kit" would generally be replacing the entire bumpers and the sideskirts. A "lip kit" would be just adding the lower lip on the front and rear bumpers and replacing the side skirts.

The OEM kit is a lip kit. Something like Kaminari would be a "body kit" in this case.

This is my situation, but it's not just limited to body mods. I'm going to have perhaps $1,000 in car-budget by the end of the summer, maybe a little more if need be. I'm looking at 18-7.5 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels with not-spectacular-but-still-good tires, but it'll be right on the edge of how much I want to spend. 17.5 lbs. for 18s is very tempting, though!

 

if weight is of concern to you, get the 17x7's.

not 18's, but shaves 1.5 lbs or so per wheel. add in the fact that that is 1.5 lbs of rotational mass saved... well... you get more than 6 pounds saved lets say.
