ok heres the deal a buddy of mine got an xb he got the rs1 hot lava. when he did this i thought cool it would be cool if they released the tc in a special edition. so the money i put down for my tc was for a special edition. but heres what has me worried, a limited edition that is the only color i now see i never see any xb's on the road except the rs1 i have seen 2 other colors and about 10 rs1's in the last 7 days. if this is supposed to be a limited edition why so many on the streets. should i change my down payment for a regular one or wait and see if scion(TOYOTA) learns from there mistake. also if i go for a regualr one which color do you people out there think will be the rarest.

 

Dang :D Save the money from your special edition, save some more money, get a custom paint job...

Why do people really care so much about being seen? If you really want to stand out, just get some decals...

Whatever the color is, it'll be around... Or else they won't make it... If you're lucky the common color won't be around your neighborhood, if you're not the rare would might be bought 5 times on your block...

Or you can do like me and drive around in Bondo color...

 

I'm having the same dilemma you are, only with an xb. from reading the boards it seems like half of everyone who buys an xb is buying an rs1. i dont see the limited in that. but, i have to look at what i just said. its from reading the boards. in all likely hood anyone who is on the boards and posting has loved these cars for a while now and wanted something cool and different and saw it with the rs1. so realistically a lot of people on the board are going to get it since these cars still arent that well known on the east coast. on that note you also have to take into consideration that not exactly a ton of these cars have been sold, and once they go across the us they're gonna sell like crazy and all those lava's and special edition tcs are gonna run out real quick and seem a whole lot more rare as soon as the streets fill up with scions.

 

People who are going to go out of their way to order or buy an release series xB are probably going to be enthusists. Yeah some are going to get bought off the lot by random people, but the people in the know who ordered in advance are a little more savvy than your average bear. Plus most of the xB colors are dark colors and though the car stands out, it scream look at me like the orange. just think how many damn maroon camrys you see in a week or red vw bugs and compare. I have not seen another on the road down here in philly, though two friends have seen one like mine near king of prussia (the big mall). Who cares.

 

key word.. ITS SEEMS... Remember.. there's only 2100 of us... so.... in a year.. 2100 of all the scions sold will be orange.. out of 20,30,40 or 50 thousand....

that's a very small number....

 

u could be seeing more of the rs1's because of the color.
if you have to look through traffic or a big parking lot you'll most likly pick out the orange ones before a silver or black one.
and i do think there is an extra rush to buy the rs1 'cause it is limited.

for what its worth, i say leave your money on the tc. so long as you like the color of it and the features, buy it.

you are only reading about the rs1's more because you are on a messagboard about scions. you are among the same group, but out on the street they are not seen a lot.

 

There is a distinct possibility that Toyota will eventually sell a primer only car. Now that will assure you that your's is the only one like it.

 

How long after the xB's initial release was the special edition released? How long before the special edition details were released? I'd love a special edition tC too but to put a downpayment on one when there are currently no details regarding it seems risky. What if Scion designers go nuts and decide to make a special editions Puke Green model? Or hot neon pink?

I mean the big thing in the xB special edition was the color. Aside from the Orange everthing, the specs are about the same as the regular xB. Hardly seems worth the risk and wait.

 

Read what i said carefully im seeing them on the road not reading and no i look for xb's on the road, i also talk to the guys at my local dealership and they tell me the only ones really selling right now are the rs1's

 

If you live near LA your bound to see alot of them . If you live where I live theres only two and one is mine. Each dealer got at least two of them and that is it. In the LA area there are alot more scion dealers so your going to see more of them. It's just the way it is.

when or if the tC special edition comes along, it better not have racing stripes but it should have a standard force induction system by TRD, RWD, with LSD!! yeah, gotta stop dreaming.

 

I don't know what the deal is out there in wacky California, but here in New York, I've seen a grand total of one Scion, ever... and it was a black xB. If you really want to stick out that much, just move here.

 

actually im here in the great state of texas in houston and in the last week alone i have seen a grand total of 11 different rs1's on my side of town about a 15 mile radius. i know there different cuase me and my bud take pictures with our cellphones every time and we stop to look i have also seen 3 on the freeway couldnt tell if they were the same one except different drivers, and new paper plates on those three. i have seen a grey dealerships xb pimped out, a black cherry pearl on the road and all the other colors on the local toyota lots.

 

daym, 11 rs1 in houston? i havent seen any yet in san antonio

 

This has been discussed before. There are two problems with selling vehicles in primer:

1. Primer isn't waterproof. The finish coat is what keeps water away from the metal. Primer's job is to stick to both the metal and the finish coat.

2. Different finish coats require different primers.

The only vehicles I have ever heard of being sold in primer were those that were going directly to nearby coachbuilders or conversion companies.

I thought the clear coat was the waterproof ingredient... You can just clear coat the primer can't you?

Bondo rules... Thats all I can remember when it comes to 8 tone paint jobs... 8 different generations of Bondo on your buddy's car...

 

No, the clearcoat is there to give the finish a "deep" appearance.

Some cynics think that clearcoat is there to peel after 3 years and make the car look bad so the owner will buy a new one.

The finish paint works just fine to seal out water.
