Default Installing a hitch tomorrow... quick question...

... and before anyone asks why... I'm installing a hitch on my wife's 05 tC so that she can put a bike rack on the back. Summertime bikes rides down the NJ shore etc.

Anyway, I am reading through the sparse instructions that came with the hitch, and it talks about enlarging a 3/4" access hole on the passenger side. For anyone who has already gone thru the hitch install, could you shed a bit more light on the install?
I have my regular tools, but just want to make sure that I don't need anything special before I start to work on it.

Thanks...

Yeah, the hitch I've got (made by Curt, I believe) is very discreet. It's a class 1 hitch that is barely noticeable below the bumper. I will take a photo when the job is done, so you can see how it looks.

There's already pre-drilled holes in the frame for a hitch - it's primarily just a case of bolting it on. I just want to know if anyone can shed a bit more clarity on the 'enlarging the access hole' part of the instructions before I start to work underneath it...

Now, as for the tC towing stuff... I'm originally from the UK, and one of the delights of long weekends (such as what we're celebrating over here right now), is being stuck behind a procession of 1.6 Liter cars towing big caravans

Thanks guys.

Wouldn't a roof mounted bike rack be a better idea?

How many bikes are you planning to tow?

I thought for quite a while about whether to go with a roof rack or a hitch mount. In the end, I chose the hitch mount for a couple of main reasons -

- Easier to get the bikes on and off a hitch mounted bike rack
- Better fuel efficiency on a hitch mounted bike rack (hey, we are all thinking about that $4 gallon...)

... typically two bikes, but maybe a chance of a third.
