Default insurance rates

In the next couple of months I planned on moving from Connecticut to Rhode Island. I did the math, with my car payments and rent etc i would need to pay about 1700$ a month. However, I would need to get my own car insurance because I'd be living on my own and I wouldnt be able to be on my parents insurance (yes, I DO pay insurance now). I went on to Geico.com and got a free quote....it was about $9,000 A YEAR!!! I knew our cars were the worst for insurance, but I didnt think it was THAT bad.

If someone could shed some light here that would be great. I really need some help finding an insurance company who won't be raping me for money.

Thanks.

Go to progressive and see what they quote you. They were way better for me than Geico. Geico works by insuring low risk drivers, that is why they can do the cheap rates.

At 20, and like me at 23, were are not low risk and the car makes it worse. I just paid $800+ for 6 months with progressive. Last 6 months was $1100+. So it did go down.

The tC just isn't cheap, so shop around, but don't skip on insurance, I found that out the hard way. It just plain sucks.

Good Luck.

Any points on your record? Are you in school? If so, are you a full time student? Are you living completely on your own? Reason I ask is if anybody else can hop on the same plan with you many companies will offer a multi-car discount, as well as a good student discount. I'm with State Farm & I have my xB & my tC on one plan & it's ~$280 a month, full coverage on both cars (my tC's insured for $65,000). I LOVE State Farm. As long as you hold onto all of your receipts (or give them copies to hold in your file) they will cover ALL aftermarket parts without raising the premium at all, & one of the perks....my deductibles only $250 (instead of $1000 like many other companies).

I have coverage through Erie Insurance, I pay $2665 a year so about 225 a month. I have one ticket so that raised it some. I would actually call to see instead of doing those free quote things.

yeah that best thing to do is to actually go in and talk with the insurance agent, because if you talk to them like a respectable person they'll try to help you out. I'm thru state farm and i have 130 dollar monthly payments as 21/m that used to have 3 points on his record up until january. I got a 35 dollar a month discount from something that isn't advertised or anything, my agent just said oh yeah, theres this that you could do and save this much a month. This ISN'T one the most expensive car to insure, after shopping around this is one of the cheaper ones that out of what i was looking at.

i guess i should throw in that i have a huge multi vehicle discount though...

State Farm doesn't offer a bigger discount based on the number of vehicles being insured. Whether you have 2 or 8 the discount is the same.

I pay about $120 a month but i dont have full coverage. I only have competihensive cov. with a 0 Deductible(FTW) I have 1 ticket and 1 that just came off. It is always way better to talk to a live agent instead of online or over the phone

Also make sure you check the deductible levels. If they're quoting you for $100 or $200 deductibles, it's going to be more expensive. So if you try $500, it'll bring the premium price down. But you also need to consider what you may or may not be able to afford if something were to happen.

I have my deductibles at $200 and $250 because I wouldn't want to come up with more than that if I need to file a claim. But my g/f has had hers at $500 just to lower the premium. I actually just adder her and her car to my insurance and the premium is is about $850-ish for 6 months for two drivers and two cars. Full coverage + $3000 extra parts coverage for my car.

bah, just stay on your parents policy and keep the car registered to their state. just don't change your license and lie about where you live. it'll work fine! lolz I've done that before but it's risky. Two door sports sedan and young male is always expensive.

i did that for 3 years in seattle..but yes its very risky...if you get pulled over, youll get a hefty fine from the cops accompanied by a verbal punishment. it happened to one of my friends.

most of the time, it just leaves them confused as to what is actually going on and they just focus on making sure the car is insured and is not stolen leads them down a different path and away from a ticket if you do it just right
