Default An introduction and some questions?

What's up all. OK, so i'm heavily considering gettin'a tC as my first brand new car. I currently own a 1988 VW Golf, which i love with all my heart, but it's honestly just not 100% reliable, and since i'm gettin' ready to go into the real world (read, i'm graduating college in two weeks), i need something i know i can count on.

So here's my questions, i've only owned two VW's and a pontiac grand am so far, the grand am sucked! and my VW's the first one was a money pit, and the second one, not as much. How easy are these cars to maintain??? I know nothing of Toyota reliability, but after doing some research it seems pretty good. My car now has 145k on the clock and the engine runs STRONG, despite some minor oil leaks.

I've read the few main problems w/ this car so far, iirc, 1. sunroof protector shatters relatively easy, 2. the radio cover breaks fairly easily, and 3. the paint isn't the greatest in the world. Are all of these true???

anyway, that should be it for now, sorry for the long post, hopefully i'll be able to learn plenty around here

Congrats on graduating college and moving into the real world. Watch out for Puck, that guy's a dick. j/k

Toyota reliability: Change the oil and it will run forever...with your basic maintenance that is required for all cars. Toyota is one of the most reliable brands on the market. You're making a wise decision.

To answer your questions.

1. It's only happened a couple of times.
2. I haven't heard this one before, I haven't had any problems with mine.
3. There's nothing wrong with the paint if you know how to take care of it. People complain about getting swirl marks too easily...ALL cars will get swirl marks if you're not careful.

Hope this helps.

cool sounds good, thnx alot! yeah i mean i figured general maintainence obviously and i love gettin' my hands dirty so that's not a problem.

And those list of problems i guess where just some random remarks not fully backed up. The paint issue i'm not too worried bout anyway, i'm not one of these freaks that have to wash and wax every single weekend. I figure one GOOD wax at least once a month should take care of it, and washing every other week, or just before i wax, i rarely have the luxury of that amount of time.

Thanks again!

dude, uncool....

i think people here complain more about people not searching and reading the entire forum when they have a few simple questions. i dont mind answering him, so if you do, keep it to yourself.

anyway, back on topic, i had a 15 year old toyota camry before my tC, and that thing ran and it still running strong. toyota reliability is top notch and the engine in the tC comes from the well tested camry, so with just regular maintenance, the tC will bring you a long way. i dont think i'll ever trade-in or sell my tC. just gonna use it until the floor drops through (maybe 20 years this time..)

One thing you should think about when reading people's complaints: relativity. What I mean is that some people expect the tC to be the same quality as a Lexus, i.e. perfect. Surely, there might be things about it that shouldn't happen, but since it is not an expensive luxury car, it does have flaws.

I'll just add my two cents in with the rest, though it's not much different. I've had/driven 3 Toyotas, and have had no major problems with any of them besides a clutch replacement at 125k miles.

I like the previous poster's comment, 'drive it till the floor drops out' - that's exactly what I intend to do. But, definitely don't expect it to be Lexus material and I'm sure the car would make you very happy, especially when moving up from an '88!

Dont forget about the Scion solutions college graduate finance program!!!

"We're offering qualified recent college graduates $400(2) towards the purchase of a new Scion just receiving that hard-earned diploma!"

sounds nice... but im n ot gunna wait another 3 years till i graduate!!! haha

Most of these things happening are typical for a new model car...the flaws will adventually be fixed or replaced under warranty ( hopefully )

for me, the college grad rebate was $500. they renewed it on march 31st which was the day i picked it up. rewrote the contract, and my dealer threw in the extra $100.
