Default itsy bitsy order/warranty issue at dealership

Well, apparently the Toyota dealership in my town charge me $16.26 for ONE cap(the circular cap in the middle of the stock Scion tC rim/wheel)today. It had fell off somehow during a previous tire rotation, just fell right out on to the ground. Don't ya think thats a bit excessive? Would this be covered under my 36,000 warranty? I've just sent them an email b/c they are closed already. If your wondering why I didn't confront them about this earlier, well, I work a good many miles from home and its not possible for me to take 'the sexy' in for service, so my mom got it done for me and just paid them for the part. Not her fault, I'm just curious whether ya'll think the 16 bucks was too much for this and if warranty could arise if presented right. If so...what are my arguments? I know its not much but... Thanks for the input.

Here's the part you left out, was it them who were working on it when it fell out? Or did you lose it? If it "fell out" while they were working on it... They ripped you good. If you lost it, well, warranties don't cover lost parts .

Whether or not this is a warranty issue I cannot say, but I can vouch for the quoted 16 dollar price. We use the scion badges off of the caps for our nametags here at the dealership (our name is inscribed where SCION normally is- very cool), and that is what they retail for. I know that because I've lost my nametag so many times :-).

Well, I still have the broken cap. Its in my car. It fell off during my last tire rotation when they were taking off the tire. Last place I got it done was Walmart. Right when if fell out they called me into the servicing bay to check it and all.

may be because you got it done at Wal-Mart and not the dealer???

Right, go to Walmart, they are responsible. You could talk to the dealer, but I bet they will claim since you had your tire rotation done at Walmart, they are responsible.

Or if you want to lie, say you found it laying in your drive way and you forgot to tell your Mom. If it is broken, they might pay for the replacement cost. I personally would eat the $16 and never go to Walmart for car service.

The fact that it happened at wall mart destroys your entire arguement. Had it happened at the dealership they probably wouldve replaced it for free to begin with. Just be happy it was only $16. From now on just take your car to the dealer for service. Youll pay $17 - $20 K for a brand new car but wont fork up an extra $10 for an oil change at the dealer? Your walmart service ends up costing you more anyway when you have to pay for the crap they break while doing the easiest task imaginable.

I just knew you guys were gonna trash Walmart. No, I completly understand. Its just...Walmart was open of Saturday...dealership service center was not...I made a choice. Didn't want to go another week and 600 more miles on tires that I wanted rotated now. Plus I was picking up a new toothbrush. Thanks for the comments guys.
