Default Just got my tc

Hey I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself to the forums. My name is JW and I just bought today an 07 FM tc 5 speed. This is my first manual and i totally love this car. I just have one question, is it normal to have this whistling sound when i am in first or second? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and glad to be here

welcome to the boards!

the whistling sound you might be hearing is scion's attempt to mimic the sound of a cold air intake.

Get a real cold air intake. You won't regret it. I installed the Injen CAI and the whistle has been replaced by a much more pleasing sound.

I understand the gain to be around 5hp or less at the top end. Basically, you won't feel a difference. It's all about the sound. I was really surprised by the difference in sound after driving on the stock engine for 6 months. I installed my CAI a couple of weeks ago and now the engine has a deep throaty growl over 3000RPM. And when you take it over 5000RPM, you can really hear it gulping the air in. I just love the sound. It doesn't sound ricey at all, it sounds beefy. This is with the Injen CAI, so I can't comment on any others.

cool yah I really like Injen. I used to drive an 04 superchared corolla with injen CAI and it was nice and deep. Well right now i am trying to finish paying off the car, but i think first mod will be tint or alarm.

Tint FTW! I took my tC to the tint shop on the same day that I picked it up from the dealership.

In Cali, you can have anything you want on the rear glass and rear sides, but you are not allowed to have anything on the front sides or windshield. However, no one really obeys the tint law...

Just be prepared to get tickets. The tint tickets in Cali are a joke though, so don't worry. You get a fix-it ticket with no fine, which means you have to remove the tint, take your car for inspection at the courthouse, pay $10 in administrative fees, then you are free to go and put the tint back on again. I've had tickets for tint and no front license plate. Both times, I just fixed the violation, got my ticket dismissed, and then returned my car to its previous illegal state. I am sure everyone does the same thing. When I got pulled over for having no plate, I asked the cop about the procedure and he told me "once you pass inspection then you can take the plate off again if you want".

Short throw shifter! From Doctor Isotope! If you're new to manual, it'll rock your world.

Also, its funny how he doesnt even have to say "what mods should I do?" before we all start yelling out things.
