yeah i'm pretty sure you would have to pay for it, that's normal wear and tear. you don't have the other copy?

Just got it in a couple days ago. The electronics for the remote just pops out of the Scion key and pops in to the new key, no problems. The chip is located to the side, between the actual key and remote (see picture). That must be cut out (it's actually held in with glue). Once that is removed, just clean it up a little and slide it into the new key (same location). Only thing I have to do now is get the key cut since you can't swap the actual key portion.

It's very inexpensive, but the buttons are much better than the regular Scion one (05-06). You will have an extra button that doesn't do anything though (trunk release).

The broken Toyota emblem came from the new key. I took it out and replaced it with the Scion emblem from the stock key.

As long as the electronics still work (lock and unlock) the key shell from my post above will work. If the electronics to your key don't work, you'll have to get a new key and have it programmed.

Another option is get a different key (seen several people go with switchblade keys) and use an aftermarket alarm to lock/unlock the car.

imsono___un....THANKS!

I've got two very worn-out looking keys for my '05 scion. they work but the buttins are warping so I went ahead and ordered two of these key fobs. I'm glad they have the toyota emblem on em because I'm rebadging my scion soon too.

Getting the chip out for the engine immobilizer can be a little bit of a pain, but it's much better than buying new keys from the dealership.

Take it to a locksmith. Dealerships might cut them, but it they might charge a lot. Walmart (automotive section) might be able to cut it, not sure.

I know my Ace hardware can cut a double sided key. Now they can't program the passive anti theft or whatever, but they can cut keys. I used to wirk at the one on Hwy6 and Bissonet in SugarLand and did locksmithing using the older manual machine...not like Lowes and Home Depot than use a automated machine with different cartridges.

Have Ace cut you a key using one of their fobs to make sure their machine is precise/they are experienced enough to make a near EXACT replica. Then if it works on the door/ignition then I would get the remote key fob cut there.

I just found something that looks like it'll also work for the tC.

http://shop.accessory4you.com/05-cha...1-1.asp?id=530

If you compare the shape and placement of the buttons, it looks just like the other key.

I might try it. Since it's coming from Hong Kong, it may be a couple weeks before it arrives.

I just received the switchblade key today. I had to use the buttons from the other key (the key I got from Deal Extreme) since the switchblade didn't come with any.

The switchblade isn't as easy as the other key as far as switching the electronics and transponder, but it isn't too bad.

The key fits the ignition and the engine immobilizer light goes out on the center console, so everything should work. Now I just have to get the key cut.

Do you think you could do another DIY for the switchblade?? Your previous DIY was so easy to follow

I have some time off during the Independence Day holiday. I'll try to put something together, maybe a short video too. I'll probably post it in a new thread.

Exactly, lol. I used a penny the other night. There's a little slot near the key ring hole to pry them apart.

That's cool... but check out ack's swap on here... pretty cool IMO... just another option since you have to replace it anyways....
This link below gives you not only what it looks like...but he did a DIY guide to do the swap.

Man these alternatives are so much cheaper then getting a new key. The dealership charges around $340 for the key and programming. What a rip off.
