Default knee airbag

Does anyone know if the knee airbag is for both knees, right, left?

Thanks.

Kevin

BTW, the Flint Mica is an awesome looking car.

The knee airbag is for both knees on the driver's side. In the event of an accident, it can keep you from "submarining", where you slide down under the seatbelts and injure yourself.

It also makes alarm installs a giant ***** to do, since you can't remove that panel to easily access the wires you need to get to.

Thanks for info. I was not able to get SAB on my tC but I think the knee airbags are great to have for those of us with long legs.......

I remember when no cars had airbags, and only some cars had 3-point seatbelts in the rear. And I'm not even that old.

Driver's airbags are really the most important ones, since without them hitting your face or head on the steering wheel was pretty common in serious accidents (even when wearing your seatbelt, which you should at all times.)

Knee bolsters (Saabs used to have them) or knee airbags are an excellent idea to prevent submarining. Passenger side airbags and side airbags are good, but not as important as the other ones. In most cases they won't make the difference between walking away from an accident or being carried away.

hmph, it is not really for submarining (as long as you have your seatbelt), but for preventing knee damage. Since your knees are very close to the actual car interior on driver side, they easily get hurt in accidents. Knee airbags are here to prevent that.

All Toyota cars with knee airbags in Europe are rated as THE safest cars in their class (Avensis in family class, and Corolla Verso in mid MPV class).

^ You're right, and so am I. It looks like it depends on who you ask. Chrysler says their knee airbags are primarily there to keep you in the seat, but BMW and others say it's primarily to reduce knee injuries. I don't know what Toyota's official line is.

i guess we can call it a truce, we are both correct, if you would to submarine, it would help you. And with proper seat belt use, it will help you not hurt your knees... besides, Toyota was the first to invent the system and apply it to the production car (Avensis)

I think within a couple of years that the government will make the knee and/or SAB mandatory.

Default Side airbags on tC......

Side airbags ARE available as a factory ordered option on the tC. You just more likely have to factory preference one if you really want one. They're not really gonna make large quantities available from stock because the cars themselves are supposed to come mono spec from the factory.
