Default legality issues

My liscence plates are coming pretty soon, but i dont want to put the front one on b/c i like how the car looks without one on. Will the cops really pull me over just for that, or will they see me speeding, and then site me for that as an afterthought? What would you guys do? Have any of you been pulled over or sighted for not having your front plate on? I live in an area with a lot of high end cars, and a lot of them dont come with places to put front plates on. They dont get bothered, and I'm thinking if i can make my car look expensive maybe I wont be bothered too. Any info you could give me would be appreciated.

i dont think they can pull you over just for that. it probably depends on your state laws though. i see a ton of people where i live without front plates.

Yes, they can. They will probably just give you a fix-it ticket though. No biggie.

Yup. In California, you're supposed to have a front license plate. Fix it ticket is what I'm counting on. Until then... My nekkid front bumper looks so purdy!

i agree with all,

in sac, they're pretty lax about it.. but you have to know where your'e at. they'll add a ticket to anything else they dont like about you if you stand out too much..

pretty easy to do with a box.

Yeah, in IL the local cops generally don't bother you
unless they have a bug up their ___, but the state troopers
look for that specifically, and it's a easy $75 ticket for them.

Sorry, but it's easier to go with it then deal without.

Keep in mind, it gives the cops an excuse to really look
your car over well while you are pulled over. So anything
else amis and you are looking at more tickets.

You don't have to pay in Cali, the fix it ticket requires "Proof of Correction" You have to get it signed off by an officer or approved inspection site that your car is now in compliance.

Thanks for the advice,

I live in CA, so this only applies here.

My xbf got pulled over for speeding in my car, got a fix it ticket for my front plate not being there. Went to the court house, needed to pay a fee of $10, or go to CHP station for free. I went to CHP (got it on the freeway).

I got a ticket not long after. Got sited again for plates and tint. Did what I had to do, got it written off. Nothing was done cuz it was the second time.

I just take the plate off again, and put the tint back on. Whatevers.

Also, for anyone living in SoCAl, be FOREWARNED that they ARE stopping you at LAX for not having a plate. When I got pulled over they were only warning, but not sure if they're only still warning, or ticketing. but yes, they will pull you over there.

happy driving. I know I"ll just deal with the fix-it tickets until they start making me pay out TONS of money. Looks are more important. lol

They cite you on Guam for no front plate if they feel like it. I've been pulled over once when I owned my Vigor. Normally they let it slide. But I wont chance it if you dont like payin. If you dont mind the fine, then go for it!

Well you won't pay a fine, but you will pay a processing fee from the court. Here in Orange county, Cali they charge a 10-15 dollar fee. And if your lucky, the police department will also charge you a fee to sign it off. Personally, I've never had a license plate in the front of any of my cars and they've never cited me for it. Now if we're talking about illegal window tint....well, that's something else...

I work in LAX and I have never been stopped for not having a front plate.

I think that it comes down to how you look and drive. No front plate is a convenient excuse to stop you and give you a looking-over if the cop wants to do so.

OTOH, I've heard of people getting pulled over for speeding and then getting just a ticket for the plate, which isn't a "points" offense.

usually not a problem down here, especially if you at least leave your plate on the dashboard..just gotta make sure you stay away from certain hotspots, where many people have been known to get caught for "illegal modifications"...fine is $55 down here.
