Beat a Corolla S. That's all. Only race on safe roads or don't race at all!

lol this is true, i'd say a brick could probably race an auto just a well as anyone else, and still lose just as bad.

I had a run with an old celica last week. I was up 1/2 a car on him and when I went into third, I heard a loud grinding noise and it wouldn't go in gear so i backed off. I still can't figure out why 3rd grinded...

I smoked a 92 Nissan Sentra the other day. The old woman didn't even see it coming.

I lost to a Lamborghini Murcielago (seriously) in my Supra at the track. Not by much, but he was just teasing me. It's funny seeing the side vents raise up on those cars

I know it can be pretty embarassing some times, but.....you either missed or you tried putting it in gear before you hit the clutch far down enough. It happens, just don't do it again, lol

Forcing the shifter = not allowing the synchro to work = mismatched gear speeds = grind

Either double-clutch (and slow down your entire shift as a result), or just slow down shifter movement.

Remember, quick shifting is in the footwork, not the handwork

i think its funny when people say that racing an automatic is lame, or cheesy, or funny. there are cars that are faster with an automatic transmission than their manual counterparts. nissan sentra SER. the new MKV vw GTI both come to mind.

In some cases I agree. If an auto is set up with tiptronics or it has a reputation as a solid shifting trans, there are few (if any) manual trans that could keep up since shifts are made and clutches re-engaged almost instantaneously. Even the best drivers in the world cannot shift fast enough to keep up with these types of transmissions. Manual trans is just more dependable and not as easy to break as an auto and definitely better for road race/auto-X/rally due to the dependability factor. Also, high speed corners can be negotiated better by an experienced driver with a manual because of the transmission's direct response to throttle input. On the flipside of my first line though, a lot of autos are freakin' slush-boxes and don't know what it means to hold a gear. I'd be interested to see 1/4 mile times for a stock tC auto against a 5-spd.
I also agree with Itsallgood. If you have an auto and you beat another car in a drag race it doesn't mean you're a good driver, you just got lucky the other guy's car isn't quicker.
