Default Lift Support and Sunroof on tC Lemon

At 36,150 miles:

1) sunroof started kicking back when it hit the deflector (must hold it down with my hand)

2) hatch lift supports failed entirely without warning (now have to hold the trunk open).

Scion said that I was over warranty and therefore these are not covered.

So how do I correct each?

Can I just add silicone to the sunroof track?

Are there replacement alternatives to the shock supports other than Scion's $140 a piece ones?

Thanks. Sean.

lame! My 05 tC that I had did that exact same thing with the sunroof before it even hit 10k I have no idea how many times I'd take it in to the dealership and it would work fine (it only kicked back every now and then) and they would think I was crazy

That's lame

Maybe from your perspective, but the vast majority of owners haven't had these problems.

for the lift supports, autozone sales them 18 bucks a piece, they may not be in the pc yet so take one of your in and match them up.

my sunroof just started doing the same thing the other day. It only does it intermittently, so it'll be hard to take it into the dealer. Anyone figure out how to fix this?

Thanks Blue_TC_Man, I'll try that. I had called around but nobody had them (in the system).

Are you sure there is one that matches? As in you bought them? Or is it an assumption.

rvpps2rocks, thanks, but I was talking of silicone grease (rust prevention, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicone_grease).

Appreciate the help.

Also, the sunroof problem only seems to be when I am stopped, not when driving.

Thanks. Sean.

i had the same problem with the sunroof where i would have to hold the deflector down before it would shut. i told the shop when i took it in for service. they said it was just dirty. they cleaned it and it has worked perfect ever since.

the fix is... when you get near your destination... make sure your going over 55mph... close the sun roof while going that speed.... the air from that speed will hold down the deflector. ;)

mine does it too...

I have 32,000 miles.

Sunroof - you have to keep the track lubed. I use white lilithum grease. I've done this since new on all my sunroofs.

Hatch struts - mine still work fine.
