Default Light in Cubby hole

does anyone know how to turn off the light in the cubby hole under the center console near the shift ****. I think i would rather have this dark than lit up.... anyone have any ideas, other than pulling the bulb.

Thanks,
Mike

I put a strip cut from a blue spotlight gel over the bulb - now I have nice subtle blue glow in there. "Stock" light is a bit intrusive in a dark car - I agree.

Nope, it's a strip of see-through plastic, called spotlight (or stage) gel, used in stage lighiting, etc. Your local guitar /musical instrument store should have it.

So I cut a strip about an inch and a half wide by 3-4 inches and taped it to the top of the cubby hole - right where the lamp is. You can't see the tape or the gel, just nice blue light.

Exactly. I used black electric tape to secure the blue gel, so even if somebody would lean down and try to look in the cubby hole they will not see anything scary. And from normal sitting position nobody would even guess how it's done.

It's called gel, but it's just a flat thin piece of see-through material.

Kinda like that:

Usually sold in packs of 6 or so for $3-6...

I just colored mine red with a sharpie it was free cuz I had one layin around worked great. Once the bulb heated up it kind of baked on so its not coming off anytime soon. I could remove it with rubbing alcohol if I wanted to though.

Glad this topic opened up. My parts department told me it was an unremovable LED. Needless to say, it will be changed soon now.

I'd also like to know how to replace the bulb and any other info like size, style, and so on. I'd like to put a softer colored light in there as the white light is pretty harsh in my opinion. Blue would probably be my first choice.

brian, when you say you replaced the bulb with a blue led I assume you mean you removed the bulb and retrofit a blue led in it's place? If that is the case, any tips would be appreciated.

why are you guys coloring it? buying clear film costs more then just replacing the damn bulb, and it looks so much better. it's just an led. my friend had one, and it costed him $2, so he just gave it to me. reach around the center console to switch it, not very difficult guys

I didn't even know there was a light in that cubby hole...

after I read this thread I went and looked, and sure enough, I have a lil amber LED in there, but mine is really really dim... even when it is black outside, you can't really tell it's on...

I'd love to change it, anyone know what size it is, or where to get a new one ?
