Lock - flash one ; Unlock - flash twice?

Lock - flash one ; Unlock - flash twice?
Can someone explain the logic of this to me? Seems that it should be reversed - twice for locked once for unlocked.
When I lock the car I want to be sure it's locked so ( other than having the horn beep when it's locked which would make too much sense - bet the 07's have this) I would like to see two flashes. Not one; which could mean it's locked, or it's unlocked and I missed the first or second flash.

Just correspond the syllables with the flashing.
Locked - 1 syllable
Unlocked - 2 syllables
I usually press my lock button a couple times while walking away, just to make sure it engages, as long as I see a blink, I'm good, even though it'll blink 10 times, I know i've been pressing the lock button anyways.
I really don't see a big deal in the way it currently is, besides possibly making it honk. It's really not hard to lock your car.

um.... every car i know out there has one flash to be locked, two to be unlocked.
for beeping it'll be an option for aftermarket alarm systems... doubt it'll come stock like that.. and i'm glad that it doesn't either.
but.. also for security reasons.. stock-wise, even if you press the unlock button, and not open a door within 20 seconds.. it'll lock the doors.

for my old mitsubishi and my mom's nissan it is exactly the opposite. two flashes to lock, one for each unlock (IE one flash when drivers side door, one flass when pressed again for other doors). it confused me at first to see it backwards on my scion. not really a big deal though.

Standard Toyota: One flash = locked; Two or more flashes = unlocked. Remember, if your vehicle has alarmed while you were gone, it should flash THREE times. :D (At least thst's the way an xB works...)

or you could have my alarm.
2 honks and 1 light = locked
1 honk and 2 lights = unlocked
(yes, it's installed correctly)
it's a factory alarm replacement from codealarm, it uses the factory key also

I am guessing it is because two lights means the driver side is unlocked and four means both doors and the hatch are unlocked. It would be wierd having one light mean unlock, two mean locked, and three or four meaning all unlocked.

Or you could do what I did.. Wire the factory horn or a piezo to the locking of the car. Easyer then looking back to check.

the mitsu is the opposite way around(and i get a honk and the dome link blinks with the turn signals when i lock it...dont ask me why it does that, but it looks cool at night)
Depending on where you parked though, you should know that you car locked.....or you could get an alarm.

I'm glad the Scions don't beep when locked. My wife's Grand Caravan does that and at night I find myself debating whether its quieter to open the door and hit the locks or use the keyless. I don't want to be THAT neighbor...
