If you can please help me here.. I want to paint my engine plastics however I have spent the day going around to different places to find the proper supplies but to no avail. I went to a paint store that sells body paint and they said to try Pep Boys, Strauss auto or Autozone. None of these places had anything close to Black Cherry Pearl. I tried Home Depot but they didnt have any clear coat high enough to use on engines. So my question to you all is where can I get the proper stuff and what is the stuff you used to do yours?? Thank you in advance for any and all help I promise to post up pics just as soon as its completed..
Thanks
Tim

I heard that for engines, the best stuff to get is the paint that you put on the cover, then put it in the oven for a while to bake it on. I am wondering if that would have any effect on the cover. I realize it gets hot in the engine bay, so please, leave that out of your flames.
Also, what kind of clear coat do you use to stand up to the heat?
Thanks

actually that plastic piece does get that hot....at least in my car it doesnt..even after a couple 4-5 drags i can still touch it and not burn myself..so i dont think it gets as hot as your thinking
It's a plastic appearance cover-- you can use whatever paint you want. Regular ABS melts around 220º, and the 30% fiber stuff at around 250º-- anything past household enamel can handle those temps.
Go to a shop that sells automotive finishes. You can get any color you want made, and many shops will be able to put it in a spray can for you. My shop does a minimum of a pint (but I shoot HVLP anyway, so it doesn't matter). Expect $20-25 for a rattle can's worth.

I painted mine with regular paint from the auto store and then put clear coat on it. It looks good and I haven't had a single problem. You do need to do some prep work first and a plastic adhesive promoter might help. I would post a pic but I can't figure out how to size them down.

Get High-Temp paint. You should be able to find it at any auto parts store. (ex. Kragens, AutoZone, etc.) That's where I found mine. If you can't find a match similar to BCP, why not try a contrasting color?
