Default Loud Engine

I'm new to stick driving and I was wondering if on a scion tC the engine sounds like it's asking for a higher gear at around 3k rpms.... the engine is decently audible at only 3k rpms.. is that normal for the scion tC... or can it only be me? to me i would assume 2.5k to 3k rpm is the norm..

I usually shift around 3500 rpms
The manual gives you a break down of the desired shift rpms/speeds for your tC

so would you say cruising at 3k rpms is too high? that may be why my engine sounds loud =D guess i'm too used to sitting in my friends wrx.

no because if you arent on the freeway and just on a street...there is no need to shift to 5th..i just keep it in 4 and yes the rpms are at 3K i just keep it down (my speed) so the RPMS dont go higher. If that makes sense.

haha, wierd i usually shift real low like around 2.5 or maybe 3, when driving around town.

But when a civic comes next to me and wants to have a little go, i usually shift around 3.5 or 4 hahaha

No but is shifting low like 2.3, 2.5 bad for a car?

thanks

I shift at 1000 RPMs j/k In town I'll shift between 2,000-3,000 RPMs depending on if I'm slowly cruising or hurrying somewhere.

This is one of the things that makes me love this car so much! I can shift as low as 1500rpms and the engine pulls wonderfully. The drivabilty of this car is fantastic. I have had many turbochraged cars and a few n/a rotary cars and having a torquey(sp) engine is great for everyday driving.

That's enough of my ranting!

Regards,

IF you mean the noise is noticeably louder at sustained driving over 3,500 you are correct.
I belive 3,500 in 5th on a manual gets you 75 -80 mph so that should be all you need.

Some people say they go 110 in their Scion, im sure its rock solid at that speed, but the noise would be race car deafening imho

It's fairly quiet even at 120...

Why would you want to?

I have noticed that if you get the RPM up to around 3500, then drop the clutch, and put it in the next gear, by the time you're letting the clutch out the RPM's have dropped to around 2500 and it goes into gear quite smoothly. That's how I normally shift in city driving.

I can barely hear the engine in this car... guess I'm used to my other car's engine

This thing does sound like it wants to blow up when you get about 90 mph or so. After hearing that and almost driving past an unmarked cop at 95 today I guess I need to slow down lol

the engine is really quiet, unless you get it above 3000 rpm. i shift first to second gear at 3500-4000 rpm, it doesn't sway as much in the shift and it catches the clutch smoother that it would if i shifted at 2500 or 3000. everything else i shift around 3000 rpm.
i just don't like how you have to keep the rpms at like 2000 in any gear, otherwise the car doesn't like to move fast anytime soon

i think the car sounds pretty good, even stock. if you ever accelerated up to about 5.5K RPM the engine has a really nice roar.

When your doin 80 the RPM's are up to about 3.5-4.
I drive an hour every morning to work and it does get pretty annoying unless i have the radio on. It's not too bad just a constant VRRRRROOOOOMMMMMMMM.
The noise starts at about 3 rpm
