Default Low Beam Issue

So just about a week ago..my wife was driving home from her Dad's softball game and her lights flickered off.

So her first instinct was to turn the switch off..then turn them back on.

Well they turned themselves back on, but went off immediately.

Now they will not turn on at all.

Keep in mind her high beams are still working as well as her fogs.

-I've checked the fuses...they're in working order.

-The bulbs are not blown..

-The ballasts are in working order to my knowledge..

-The connections are legit.

I then began to check the relays..

I'm a noob when it comes to relays..the car was previously owned by golden, on SL..he somehow wired up a relay fuse into the car's engine harness to hook up to the H.I.D.s...

So therefor the H.I.D.s are not getting their power from the original stock headlight bulb plug-in.

These relays are completely turning my head in circles..

Please help my wife and I out..these is a completely unexpected hassle.

It has happened to me.....the fuses were lose. The fuse and the connectors might not be touching correctly. Check each connection. Im more than sure that's it.

Were you talking about the headlamp fuses or relay fuses?
I checked the headlamp fuses and to my knowledge they have a valid connection..

When I had this issue, it was my ballasts. I had one bulb going out randomly and then the other started. Soon neither one would stay lit very long. I sent my whole kit back for a bench test and it was my ballasts.

double check the relay... they are sensitive to moisture and easily gets corrosion on the relay connections... causing them to go bad...

Hmm..I bought a new kit for that very thought.

But even with the new kit nothing works.

I'm beginning to think it is one of the relays not working properly.

I never even used relays in my setup.
I would try connecting everything with out them.

if you complete the install with them not included, and they work, well there you go, found yourself the problem.

ok.........it sounds like a problem that i had. It sounds like the relay is corroded. Check it out, and if it is, then you need to get it changed. Radio shack sells them for about 8 bucks.

I wish it was that easy.

The previous owner hooked them up through a relay into the harness.
No other way around it.

That's what I was leading to as well.
When I was messing around with the relays some moisture was in them.

Is there a way to tell if the relays are getting power or if they're to corroded to work?

You could use a volt meter with a conductivity test on the relay and see if that works. Or test it with a volt meter when it is powered.

If both HID's don't work, 99% of the time it will be the relay. Both balast usually doesn't go bad the same time. If both sides don't power up, it will be the relay that is bad.

I don't see why a relay is needed. I've been running my HID's from Volt Digital++ for well over a year now in Florida (land of rust) and they are still working great! I just used the factory low beam leads. My kit has an igniter box before my ballast so perhaps yours does not and may be your issue.

Alright..well my car..my 2008 tC..does not have a relay.

It's PnP right into the stock headlamp harness.
Self-explanatory, right?

Exactly.

But my wifes car, the one with the issue..I didn't install the H.I.D.s.
The previous owner installed them via a relay.

I attempted to plugs them directly into the original headlamp harness but i didn't get any power.

the fuse for the stock headlamp leads is probably busted. I'm still lost as to why a relay was installed... unless the headlight switch is screwed up or something. I just don't get it. I would eliminate that relay crap and start from scratch. If it still doesn't work, then scrap the HID's and buy a new set and install them like your 08 and like my 07.

yea. I'd take everything out. start over. I'd put a stock bulb in there just to see if it's the HID's, or a fuse or bad connection somewhere, Then I'd just work piece by piece to find what's messed up. If all else fails, just buy a new set.
