Lowest gas gauge reading.....
i was a little scared because i was on the highway and no exits for like 30 miles. i made it to the gas station with like 350 miles to the tank. when i filled it up, i still had about 3 more gallons to empty. not bad
ok heres a question , what does "R" really stand for ? I know in our cases it means fill up , but i am just curious as to what the true meaning is , Refill , Reload , Refuel LOL . I mean it would have made alittle more sence to go 1/1 1/2 0
I've heard you can get almost up to 40 miles after the light comes on..i could be wrong. I dont like to let my car run on E or let it get to the point where the lights come on....someone once told me that is bad because the car will pick up the gunk on the bottom of the gas tank and put it into your fuel filters..whether or not this is true..i just dont like running it dry
You can go over 40 mi with the light on, easy. I've gotten it about the equivalent of 1/8th of a tank below the empty line and it took 13.4 gallons to fill. The car bucked a little the last 1/4 mile into the station.
I've had mine go under the R quite a bit, and normally I won't fill up till the light comes on...I use my car for work to go from store to store, and if I'm busy sometimes I won't gas up until the last minute. The most I've put in was a little over 13.5. The closest gas station for 20 miles was out of gas that day, so that's my excuse, I was already pushing it though.
14.3 gallons is the closest I've come to empty
had 373 miles on the trip meter....
car bucked around the corner to the station.
On the highway: when that light comes on you should be able to get another 50 miles before you should be "desperate". needle was WAY below the R.. practically to the light! I was sweating a little.

reserve tank eh? nice to know
btw it is bad to have ur "I NEED FUEL" light on
Reason is gas is very soluble to water. The less gas you have means the more water you have. i always fill up my tank at 1/4 mark

I have to drive a long ways to work and back, around 55miles round trip. I left and got about 5 miles to work when the light came on and didn't fill up until I got home. (Cheap gas where I live). On the way home I went around this S-Corner at around 40 and the car stalled out when I tried to power out of the last corner. The power came back on immediately (manual) and I barely touched the gas pedal the remaining 5 miles to the gas station. And yes, it was below the R. I can't recall how much I put in the tank on the fill up, but knowing the MPG I constantly get it was near 13.7 since I have never had over 400 on a tank.
It's what I like to call "Kramering It". If you know what I mean. =)

I know of three reasons for not running your fuel injected car out of gas:
1. Burns up or shortens life of the fuel pump.
2. The pump may pick up sentiments from the fuel tank.
3. May cause the engine to backfire. This could possibly cause the most damage - to your intake system, emmision controls and catylitic converter.
Hope this helps,
Steve
I once actually ran out of gas while on the road out in front of a gas station and coasted into the pumps. Doesn't cut much closer than that!
That was with an old mustang though, not the scions. Had a mechanical fuel pump that was self-priming, so no damage there either.

. . .i had my tC well below R. . . it needed 13.4gallons to fill . . . .i experienced the buck as well, no stall though. . . . it only happened when i hit turns really hard (me being the carver i am) and when i accelerated hard to get onto the interstate . .. .
. . i guess its from the little bit of fuel swishing around in the empty tank.
