maintenance alarm.....??? question!

maintenance alarm.....??? question!
Hi guys..
i saw "maintenance required" alarm light from the gauge cluster this morning when I turned on the car and it was flashing 6 - 7times and it went away. i was a little surprised, so i turned off car and turned it on again...then the flashing alarm was same.
Mine is alsmost 8000mile 06tC and I have changed engine oil at 3000mile couple months ago... I didn't go the dealer for 5000mile service...
Is this normal flashing periodically, I meanI've never seen this kind of light before..
Anyone knows of this light????
