Default manual or automatic???

Hey everyone, got a question... im very close to buying myself a tC, and i cant deicde if i want manual or auto. the problem with this is that ive never driven a stick before, ive seen it done and it looks fun as all heck, and im going for fun, i dont want my car doing all the work, i want the hands on aproach, so im a little weary to drive my brand new scion home from the dealer without any knowledge of driving a manual transmission... what does everyone think i should do? is it possible to master it that fast?

stick is a fun car to drive in the open. If the tC will be your daily driver (in traffic) you may want to think about getting an AT.

stick if you can, auto if can afford it. What you gonna use it for? Daily commuter in heavy traffic, easier to have auto, if you can put up with stick go stick. If you can't afford auto go stick. WHatever floats your boat dude. Don't ever buy something because it looks fun. Have a better reason. Well its not my money so i'll shut up.

Do u know the concept of stick? Im not trying to persuade you onto any side just trying to make sure u choose the right tranny. My advice is learn how to drive stick first. Get the feel of the clutch and how to get out of first gear. Thats the most important thing to do.

AUTO= boring! (in my opinion- to each his own) Learn the stick- you will love it later! It will be rough for the first week- but with practice comes perfect!

you have to clutch while you shift, and learn to "drive with two feet", id love to learn but no one i know has a car with stick. so im sort of stuck, ive seen many episodes of "top gear" but i dont think thatll help me once im sitting in my car.

get stick bro. have the salesman teach you how to drive stick. my friend wanted to buy an eclipse gts but he didn't know how to drive stick. the salesman took him out back in the parking lot and taught him in like 45 min. lol trust me man, those salesmen will do anything to sell you that car. :p

Ha- good idea- just learn on something you don't want on the lot. Then go and buy the tC after "abusing" the first car.

Only problem there is the tC isn't a coupe. It's a hatchback designed to look like a coupe.

I'd say get the stick. I learned on a stick so it wasn't an issue with me, but when I asked the salesman how the tranny shifted, he told me that it was very forgiving and the he taught someone how to drive stick on it. AFter driving my Tc for 1000 miles (in less than two weeks I might add), I would concur. It will be a tough first week learning the stick, but you won't regret it. I have been driving sticks for 15 years and wouldn't drive anything else. True, they are a bugger in traffic, but I'll take that because I CANNOT STAND where autos shift. Right when I need the RPMs & speed the most, the blasted things shift! I like being able to control where the shift takes place. Plus, it is just plain fun to keep it in third and take it over the twisty mountain roads - something an auto won't do - you'll constantly be tapping on the brake as the thing upshifts and downshifts. Argh!

Good gas mileage too! Get the stick if you want better gas mileage. I can go about 300 miles on a tank of gas. Plus it's fun as hell!

Buy a stick. You have more control over you're car. When you leave the dealer drive around for a while, its easy to learn. Within a few days you'll be alright. Then you'll be glad u got stick.
