I hate to make a video game relation to this but it just fits. New cars much like new online video games (ex Everquest) have lots of bugs. This is because even after testing a car through production they dont get to see all the kinks. They see the major ones but alot of the minor things go unnoticed. For this reason when a car first comes out all these things are noticed by the public and neutralized. They expect things to be worng with it and they expect customers to speak up so they can fix the problems. Same thing goes in online video games, bugs happen and bugs get fixed.

or an audi:

or a bmw:

(2200 miles, no rattles, bumps, popping, clicking, squeaking or grinding. you want problems?? check out any american made SUV. THOSE owners have problems.)

The only problem with that analogy is that when a game has a bug, you don't take it back to wal-mart to get it fixed. The creators of the game make a fix and install it (well, you have to do the arduous task of double clicking the autoinstaller...) for you.

Unfortunately that's not how it works in the car world. In the car world, communication sucks and certain dealers don't want to do warantee work on your car and some don't even know how to work on every part of your car.

I used to ride my bike all the time... I used to go to my friends house who lived like 10 miles from me.. would ride there and back like everyday.. and me and my friends used to race bmx Yes i had a car just liked to ride my bike..

Also used to like to walk used to go different places to walk around.. like downtown or go to St Augustine , FL not to far from where i live.. or if wanted to be away from crowds would go to secluded areas and walk we have alot of wooded areas around my house so me and my friends woods just go walk through the would and just hang out and talk..

THEN i graduated high school and had to enter the real world so dont have time for most thing i used to do.. but am trying to start the things back up.. Riding my bike and walking were always really relaxing..

My only complaint on the tC is the actual tC owners. Yes I have rattles as well but I can;t expect a $16.5k car to have the interior quality of a $50k BMW. I think people just expect to much from cars. If a ratte is the worse problem with this year consider yourself lucky. Own a VW or Audi, there in the shop every week and there much more expensive than any Scion.

i never said it was going to have the interior quality of a $50k BWM, thats because its a toyota. BWM is known for quality, just like mercedes. But i would expect better, like a said i had a 93 geoprizm and no rattles,or pops, squeaks, and this is 2005 scion, i would expect better than that.

I agree, my buddy's VW has its sunroof DUCT TAPED to the roof b/c it tries to fly off in traffic. he's gone through about 3 clutches and 2 tranny's, his windows barely work and he has horrible electrical problems. not that I'm saying that rattles/creaks are acceptable, but C'MON PEOPLE! The sunroof TSB was b/c 2 screws weren't tightened to the correct torque settings. 2 SCREWS!! Out of however many millions of parts/screws/pieces, 2 screws weren't tightened correctly. Already news media is talking about how Scion owners have a lower initial satisfaction rating b/c they are primarily a much younger crowd and _____ about more things. Two friends bought Nissan Frontier pickups. One, within a week of buying it broke a c-clip holding the radiator hose on so it basically emptied its radiator onto the parkinglot. The other's rear tail-light filled with water, and his A/C bearings seized so he had a grinding noise whenever he started the engine (remedied by removing the A/C belt until it was fixed).

A former coworker had a Toyota pickup and went through 2 different tranny's in his auto Tacoma in less than 50,000 miles (purchased brand new). Rattles/creaks/groans suck, and should be repaired by the dealer, but lets keep some perspective on this...

all i know is, if and when i find any rattles that i can pinpoint, all it will take is some rubber liner, maybe some electrical tape. why not just troubleshoot yourself? put some effort into doing it clean and functionally, so that it won't ever come back.

use your head.

I see you've met the tC forums resident troll, Cybergypsy. She's entertaining like a court jester. Anyways, if your driver and passenger windows rattle, you might want to take it in for a check. Alot of times hatchbacks will have rattles from panels that flex since it doesn't have the back support structure of sedans and coupes. Toyotas, as well as many other brands have rattles. Some models won't have rattles, some will. But I would get the two window rattles looked at.

Edit:I can't say anything about gears because I got the auto version.

Ok,
So I've had my tC almost 3 months have about 3000 miles on it, and I don't have a single complaint about the car!

Maybe it's Lack of Oxygen here in CO, but I've driven Subaru's, VW's and Fords and compared to those cars the tC out does them all in almost every catagory. (The subaru is pretty much on par with the quality though.)

I'm actually kind of tired of the same "oh my car rattles" thread. Every car rattles you want a car that doesn't rattle, find a car with no moving parts!

Peace! I'm out!!

if your tranny sounds "clunky" that's normal. turn off the car and shift around, see if you hear the same noises.
