I guess I do have paint problems. I drove behind a gravel train on the highway and a bump threw about 200 rocks all over the front of my car. Must be a factory paint problem.

mine's been fine (knock on wood), as have most people's here. I'm just thnkfull that the problems people *have* had have been relatively minor. Compared to some of the problems/recalls I've seen (friend's VW jetta with the sunroof DUCT-TAPED to the roof b/c it wants to fly away, engine problems on my parents minivan, massive electrical failure on the Trailblazer, etc) a rattle or paint problems, while annoying, don't really seem that bad. will reserve judgement till I see some real numbers of problems, including those that don't get fixed.

We apologize for the concerns you have experienced with your tC. Like all Toyota products, Scion is built with the same high standards of quality, safety, and reliability. What distinguishes Toyota/Scion from other automobile manufacturers is its’ dedication to upholding that high standard. However, no vehicle is perfect. To stand behind our product we offer a Comprehensive Warranty of 3years/36,000 miles (from the date of first use, whichever occurs first) for any repairs or replacement that becomes necessary due to a manufacturer defect in materials or workmanship. (For more details on Scion’s warranty, please click on the following link: http://www.scion.com/drive/warranty/..._warranty.html) Additionally, Scion has always taken our customer’s feedback as a priority and will work to proactively address any concerns that may arise.

We encourage you to continue working with your local Scion dealership, as they will also communicate these issues with us. For additional support, you can also contact us by telephone so that you may speak with a Scion Specialist.

We thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and again apologize for any inconvenience this experience may have caused you. It is through your communication that we able to improve our vehicles even more! Thank you!

Sorry, there is no Scion web page matching your request. It is possible you typed the address incorrectly, or that the page no longer exists or has been renamed.
.......... uh okay.... new/different link and does the warranty cover paint defects? (i.e. these stone chips that are chipping so much b/c of thin clearcoat)

Dude, you were damn lucky with the prizm.... I had three friends that had them. The biggest rattle traps I have ever seen!! Their dashes not only rattled after 50000 miles, they fell apart! [\quote]

I have had my '96 Prizm for 5+ years now and I haven't had a problem with rattling. Change DOES rattle if in the little change holder, but that's of course to be expected. One problem I do have though...the AC vents won't stay in place.

Well, the Prizm IS a Toyota It was made at the same plant that the Corollas were built. Prizms are great. American depreciation with Japanese reliability. The best of both worlds.

What does this mean? That Scion is going to reimburse me for having the front of my car repainted??

And also- pics will be up by this weekend. Just got some back that i took with a $4 throw away camera and, go figure, they're all out of focus.

this is an interesting problem. our TRAC car here is a BCP, as was our xA, the xB is a TCM. these cars see more ___ than ron jeremy and naturally take a little bit of abuse since the general public tends to drive our cars like they own them. even with all the crazy test drives, country roads here in oklahoma, or anything else, i've never noticed any paint problems with any of our cars. the flint i'd say has been the most popular color here and none of my customers have complained. i'm curious as to if this problem turns out to be an isolated problem w/ scions (which i hardly believe to be the case) or if its just the conditions in which the cars are operated.

if you didn't know, the paint process w/ toyota vehicles is the longest part of the entire vehicle assembly. well over 12 hours goes into paint prepping, wet sanding, coat after coat. the toyota paint process actually leads the industry standard, and actually is the one part of the assembly line that they won't let anyone see how its done. is scion different? who knows, still built in the same plants. and it wouldn't make sense to me that toyota would skimp on the quality of a product that was designed to hook in new buyers for the future. my .02

My guess is these cars are suffering from some glitch in the paint process. Possibly just a bad batch of paint. With as few complaints as we are seeing on here, while it is a problem, I don't think it's a widespread one. It would be interesting to know if the VIN build numbers are close together, that would make me think it'd be more of a bad batch of paint than actually a complete flawed line of paint.

wow lots of chips...i only have one chip in the front bumper but i have the same hood scratches you show in the 4th picture down..they're in the same area and are actually worse than yours..they showed up the first week i drove my car...haven't had any other paint problems yet...so i'm not sure if you'll want to include those scratches in your case...i figure its just the way the air flows over the hood..things may be more prone to bounce there...but if you think pics of my hood would help your case let me know..my vin# is in the low 1,200's so it's an early one..also i don't drive it everyday....had it since June and just turned 4,800 miles.

I don't have that many chips, but I probably have about half that amount. I stay away from dump trucks and tailgating whenever possible, but here on I-75 which is under constant construction, it's damn near impossible to avoid chips.

Gee, thanks for that intelligent advice, moron.

1) I don't live in the countryside

and

2) every time I see a truck I make sure to leave plenty of room or immediately move to another lane.

Yep, looks like we've got yet another genius on this board.

I dont know if this was mentioned earlier and Im too lazy to read 7 pages but my dealer mentioned something to me about a paint issure with the car. Mainly dealing with taking off the plastic crap when you first get your car. I wonder if its a paint problem, a platic covering problem, or what. Giving people the benefit of the doubt saying they don't tailgate or anything I wonder if the problem was a soft paint or just a crappy paint job or none of the above. Just thought I woudl throw that out.

And just to vent my 2 cents what a dumb forum name. Of course the tc has some issues its a brand new car! not to mention with all the hype most people think the car should drive itself.
