this may sound stupid
There actually is a threa don why newer cars recommend something lighter even if its the same car, our tc being a perfect example. Something like 30W are more wasteful or something, Even tho it provides a better amound of protection, they now recommend something lighter.
someone recommended using a 0w. that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. you are only supposed to run that oil if a. you live in arctic weather year round or b. if you have a hybrid. please do not run a 0w in your scions. you will only do more damage then good.

yea.. that was me along with TOYOTA.
0w20 would be during winter conditions... sorry for not being clear.... but obviously you haven't read your owner's manual... as it also has 0w20 stated inside of it.
but yes.. normally.. 5w20
stupidest thing i ever heard? hmmph... coming from a person who obviously didn't read their owner's manual or anything else put out officially by Toyota...

All you need to remember is that you don't want to use syn. on higher mileage cars.

The reason why I don't recommend syn on high mileage car (that has never tasted synthetic) is because synthetic oil has more "cleaning" agent than dino oil. So if you do put synthetic, its going to clean off the seals which could reveal pin hole leaks that was clogged by the gunk/deposit that was forming on the seals.
It goes the same for engine flushing fluids. I don't recommend it because its too thin and will "wash" all the gunk inside the engine, seals... reveals leaks that was clogged by the deposit. In some cases, I've seen it eat through the oil pan gasket but this was on an older car that was leaking badly anyways.

Oh you from the bay? Yeah stevens creek is super busy.. plus the more people the dealership deals with, the less nice they are to you, atleast it seems that way when they are busy.
