Default Mods with $500 budget

Hey Guys, So this summer, I'm limiting myself to only $500 in mods on my silver 07 tC. I'm saving the rest for mutual funds. lol, anyways, with the $500, what would you do to your car if it was stock like mine. If suggestions are intakes and lowering it, please tell me what intake to get and what springs/struts to get. Thanks in advance

Lowering springs and a rear sway bar to start.

As for which springs? Depends on what kind of drop your looking for. I have a nice little chart over here to see what you might like: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=89766 And there are plenty of pics of all kinds of springs and suspension combinations here to check out what you want it to look like: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=39485

And for the sway... well, I'd say TRD or maybe H&R - unless you plan on racing or autocrossing or something - then I'd say the Hotchkis front/rear set.

I'd be interested in why you guys would mod handling before engine? In most profressional reviews - they say - our car has better handling than the stock tires can handle.

I myself would rather do something engine wise, though it's hard to get two things with just 500 dollars. I bought an AEM CAI for $230 last year. Took about an hour to install and I did it with a buddy there to hold the flashlight and be the tool bish.

If I were you, I'd get an intake first. I really like mine, and the throttle response is slightly better, though its not much.. but the sound is impressive. It's aggressive and not too ricey. With the rest of the money i'd probably go with a drop like they said.

Just b/c it can out handle the tires, doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement.

With any of the intakes, the performance is really negligible in daily driving (much of it is in your head, trust me, I have one)... where springs and a sway make a NOTICEABLE difference in daily driving.

Intakes are mostly for look and sound... and performance that you won't always notice. Suspension is something you'll notice and feel every day.

That's just my opinion though. I'd rather my car handle well than being loud.

Thanks for the advice. ack154, thanks for the links to the charts and the pics. I think im going to get springs and an intake. I could also possibly get a tint since i will be getting it with four of my friends so hopefully there is a big discount.

As for the springs, I was thinking of tein springs, but can someone tell me the difference between the S-techs and H-techs besides the amount it can lower and also, what do you guys think of a short ram vs. CAI. I was thinking of going with the Short ram cuz i go to school in binghamton, and the weather there is wet and cold and snows alot, so im worried about hydrolocking. thanks again

handling out perform the tires? iono but with a budget like that its kinda hard, suspension or engine? at this time i've spent bout 800-900 on the BF goodrich g-force sports tires, which sticks like hell, but what i'm tryin to get at is, suspension if u have already upgraded tires, cuz i love my corners lol, if not go with motor upgrades, suspensions help when u have good traction with tires, if its stock tires u can go ahead n try to drift lol just a suggestion.

Hotchkis springs and sways (front and rear) and DC Sports front strut bar (not that it does anything).

If I had the money though, I'd switch to some H&R coilovers.

and as far as tires go.. i'm runnin on 4 Fuzion Z-Ri's. I like em and they were only 160 shipped (got em from tirerack.com) for a set of 2. Despite my aggressive take offs and cornering they seem to be wearing nice and slow - knock on wood. I'd do springs and tint if you don't have it. I bought my car fully loaded though, so my priorities were different.

^^^ yup yup do suspension like they mentioned.. Spend it wisely with something you can really feel like springs sways. Something you can use or enjoy everytime you drive maybe like tint, shortshifter or alarm or sound system would make you feel happy of the money you spend. You prolly wont notice anything with intakes, exhaust even with headers if you want real power you have to spend more...

TRD lowering springs $160, tint $200, Interior cathodes for under feet $10, caliper paint $16, s2k antenna $40,

Total = $426 with $74 left to take and invest in the lottery for a chance at more mods

Oznium.com has nice cathodes, very skinny and bright, easy to hide, they are the only place I know of who has great prices and quality like that.
