I heard that the EPA is allowing "more polluting gas formulations" to be used during the fuel crisis caused by hurricane Katrina.. they said it's to allow refineries to get gas more quickly to market..

my question is.. how is this "more polluting gas" going to affect the tC's engine? i was thinking that meant higher sulfur content in the gas, correct me if i'm wrong..

At worst would be a rotton egg smell from the exhaust at times, but normally you would notice no difference.

 

No problem at all. This change only allows all 50 states to use the same chem compound in refinement. Currently, each state/region has it's own clean air provisions mandated by the EPA (tree huggers) and requirements. Some states have little to no requirements because there is no EPA requirements.

Our engines are fine in all 50 state requirements and will burn this fuel just fine. It just allows the refineries to distribute the fuel much faster as opposed to making many different mixes.

 

^^^^ He's right. It would be illegal to give out gas that does damage to your engine.

 

Yes and no. Check with new VW/Audio owners in a few months who have direct injection gasoline engines in their cars. Our gas we have was bad enough when it comes to this kind of fuel injection system. Apparently our already high sulfur content in our gas will lead to deposits on the injectors, and it's going to be even worse once they start doing this for a while.

Moral of the story: New technology is great, just wait till it has some time to get tested by OTHER people first.

 

The higher sulfur relates to diesel fuel.
