i cant wait till i get to washing my car again...the rain and the fact that i park my car in the open at school means that its bound to get dirty after a few hours >_>.

dish soap (dawn in your case) is usually used to remove any old traces of wax left behind...so its usually a start for a good complete clean. following dish soap, usually comes a real car wash soap like ICE, Meguiars, TurtleWax etc..

but awsome looking! definitely gonna clay my car come this summer!

Yeah, that pro might tell you he starts with dish soap, but you gotta remember, he probably isn't washing the same car/cars over and over and over...and he only needs it because he may not know the car's um..."wax-history."

I still can't believe you layed your wheels face down on concrete......

Honestly, its not that big of a deal, its not as if the factory tc wheels are some sort of gem. My wheels have already been thrown around during multiple auto x tire swaps.

Anyways I'll post up some pictures of Day 2 in the morning. I can't seem to find my camera.

Simple green is good for wheel cleaning, scent-free liquid laundry detergent is even better. Before I clay, I always use Dawn Ultra, and I go over the entire car twice. Also good to have a mitt specifically for that job.

sorry, winter came along and the only way I can finish this is doing it inside the garage. Well my garage is disgusting. My dad is a contractor so we tend to keep and store allot of useless spare materials. Anyways we've been cleaning it and organizing it for the past 2 days.

Anyways I'll also be ordering a Porter Cable buffer along with some compounds from autogeek.net so I'll promise to finish doing everything and post up the results.

haha...sounds like the complete opposite of me. after I do a complete detail of my car...I constantly find myself going back outside every 10 minutes because I think of something else to do. Sometimes it's take a damp cloth and scrub all the dust out of the engine bay on everything I can reach, sometimes it's clean out the area underneath the sunroof. Whatever I can find...I clean.

Water etching are spots where water is left to dry for long periods of time, they are calcium deposits and annoying to have. They mainly create in flat surfaces such as the roof (in our case glass) hoods, trunks and front and rear windshields. I couldn't find a good picture but just imagine dried up water spots from when you don't properly dry your car. Except more permanent. They are a nuisance because even after properly washing and drying the car you still have these "spots" that take away shine and act as an abrasive surface so water doesn't slide off.

I used to have it on the roof of the car, but I was lucky to get to it early and it clay barred off. All I do to prevent it now is to keep all of the glass rain x'ed.

BTW, I cleaned out the garage so the TC is all sung in there, I'm just waiting to pick up the PC 7427 now.

I honestly don't see why anyone uses dish soap on a car.

from dawn's website:

Dawn is so effective in cutting grease on dishes that over the years, consumers have used Dawn on other greasy messes around their homes, from cleaning kitchen messes like grease build up on the stove range hood to oily spots in the garage. Dawn is not recommended for window cleaning, car washing, body wash or washing hair.

If you are going to clay a car and do not strip all of the wax off first, you're basically wasting your time. Dawn will strip all of the wax off of a car with little effort. That is the ONLY time you should ever bring dishwashing soap near a car.

So is it ok to clay bar the glass roof?

Yeah, the hole idea I had that day was I was going to clay bar it, polish it, apply some sealant and some wax, but I got called into work and I couldn't finish up. Now I'm just waiting to pick up my PC to finish it up.

Yeah, I always like to clay bar the glass before applying rain x. That way the surface is in the best condition.
