Default My Insurance increased because my "Vehicle Symbol Code&

changed?

wtf is this? My premium increased because AIG said my Vehicle Symbol code changed from an 18 to a 19.. they said it affects ALL 06 scions..

WTF? I asked them to elaborate on this meaning and they said that I guess all vehicles are given a symbol code which means it's crash rating, value if stolen etc..and because it increased 1 number, I now have to pay MORE money..

Anyone else heard of this? this does not seem logical or even legal.. Insurance premiums are supposed to drop as a car gets older, not increase, especially if you have 0 accidents..

Progressive raised my rates once when nothing had happened and said they raised all California residents' rates. I switched to Geico shortly after - more coverage for half the price.

Insurance companies suck!! If they can find an excuse to
a)raise your rates
b)not pay your claim
c)all of the above
they will.

yeah, basically if my insurance company called me and said that through no fault of my own, my insurance premiums are going up, i would tell them to cancel my policy and i'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Most of them suck at some point. I am with Ameriprise now and no one can touch them for rates for me. It is even lower now, since I have 3 cars, two drivers and our house insured through them, but they have always been reasonable. AAA used to be great for me, then they decided to double my rates out of nowhere. Dumped them and have been with Ameriprise ever since. Geico has never been even close to cheap for me.. normally almost twice the others.

It varies from location and person, so check all of them and dont be afraid to change companies when you find better deals. Most could care less how long you are a customer, so there is no reason to stay longer if their rates go up.

Yeah just shop around, sometimes they raise your rates for no reason, sometimes they have a "somewhat" legitimate reason (i.e. your area has had more claims and is more problematic to theft and crashes, which is very understandable).

I had the same issue, I used to use e-surance with my first car and was paying 800/6 mo and then they said that my area was more problematic, which I understand, I live in a crappy area, but they wanted to raise it to 1200 (mind you this is with 0 collision/comp cov, just the bare minimum for ca coverage). Went with Geico and they said they did recently raise theirs, but only by like 50-100 total, so practically the same (considering they were cheaper in the first place) as my original policy.

Still sad though, 1800 per 6 months now and a squeeky clean record (granted it is only 2 years of driving).

whoa! $900/6mos? I guess it also depends on where you live. I bet CA has the highest average car insurance I'm stll waiting for my ins invoice to come in so I can pay for the next 6mos. coverage.

You can also thank all of the street racers out there that cause accidents. They are the ones making our insurance go up.

Minneapolis area is pretty expensive for everything.. cost of living is ridiculous here compared to the rest of the midwest. Not as bad as cali, but pretty bad on most things. Lots of money here.. .so of course the cost of living is high But I dont know how our insurance rates compare to other areas. My insurance jumped a good amount when I moved here 4.5 years ago. The highest it was for the two of us and our 3 cars was $1300/6 mo. I changed companies and it was about $1100 I think. Then after buying house and using the same company to insure it, we are down into the 900 range.

Yeah a big part of cost is also where you live..........I live on a highly traveled main street........so the accidents per person who lives there are way up.........problem is the people that are having the accidents are not livingthere........just driving through.........sucks.......Seattle area is also a high cost place to live........so they hit us hard.......

They could be getting a lot of claims for Scions ... that happened for me with SV650S... insurance company reclassified the bike as a supersport so that they could jack up the rate for the money they supposibly were paying out (as anyone who knows mototcycles could tell you, the SV is far from being a supersport); my insurance premium went from $400/yr full coverage to $1200/yr full coverage.

I changed insurance companies
