My key looks like sh*t!

2 regular keys w/ fob built in.. and 1 "valet" key that can just open doors and start car, but no glovebox entry.
im still on my first, i havent touched the 2nd one, i got a 06 in 05.
hardly any type of wear.lol.

Colormatching the key is nice, but the finish doesn't last. I did it, and NO paint holds up when on a key. All the paint is rubbed off where the key ring rubs, and has a few knicks here and there.
I never tried melting the plastic back together. That sounds like it may work. I've also thought about that blue PVC glue.

but damm, those keys u guys posted look like crap! does black stuff get all over your fingers? cuz it looks like it does!

seriously tho, can we just buy an uncut key on ebay. remove whatever is inside of the sh*tty key into the new key and get it cut by a locksmith? It sounds easy but am i missing something?

^ if you take the ALREADY programmed transponder chip out of your old key and place it in the new key then it will work just fine.
you can also remove the circuit board inside and place it into the new key and you won't hafta reprogram your keyless either... that is if you buy a key that looks exactly the same.

For you 05-06 owners, you can get an 08 key for your tc if you want to spend a few dollars. My key was the same way as most of you guys have out there looking all torn apart. You could buy a blank 08 key with the chip, buttons, and cover from the dealer for about $60. $40 to reprogram the key, then take the little remote buttons from you old key and place it in the new black key. Cost me about $100 bucks from my local dealer but now I have an extra gray key laying around and using the black key for my 06. So the myth of other year key doesn't work is false but you gotta pay a pretty penny for a new key.
