My tire blew up!!!
Thursday night on my way to Lake Mohave in Nevada, my driver side rear tire just blew up. I was only 180 miles into my trip and my tire blew. My car is less than 2 months old with less than 2800 miles that night. It was at night time so no tire shop was open at the time so my friend and I had to change to the spare and drive for 2 more hours at 50mph. I called a couple friends to bring a full size 17 but the one they brought was the wrong 5 lug pattern. so i had to drive 5 hours at 50mph all the way back home from nevada. i tell you one thing, it wasnt fun. so today im bringing it in to get a new brand of tires and a full size spare. the car is on stock suspension and stock rims and tires. no engine mods at all. Im hoping toyota/scion will cooperate or else there will be hell. im just giving you guys a heads up on the tires.

and im gonna have them fix this too

a little over the highway speed. around 80. even still if i was going 140, it should still hold up. im gonna try to get michelins under the warranty. i dont want yokohamas.
The exact same thing is happening on both of my front seats.
I mentioned it in the survey I got in the mail, but I was going to bring it up, along with a problem with my spoiler, when I get my oil changed at 5k
that tire blowout is scary ____ man

this has happened before with the bridgestone re92's.. you're not the first person.. doesn't look like anything hit that tire.. looks like the sidewall just crumbled..
If you're going to get anything I've had good luck with my pirelli pzero nero m&S tires..

I'd rather spend the money i don't have for tires like the pirelli pzero nero m&s I have than to wonder if my tire is going to blow out.. glad you're alright and that no big damage happened to the car!! you definitely were lucky

just any FYI, when i picked up my car i thought the tires were a little hard. Figured that it was the low profile tires (im used to my truck, lifted on 33s). well one day i deceded just to check the air pressure and they were at 55psi from the dealer/factory. It said on the sidewall not to go past 40psi for inflating only. I looked in the door jamb and it said 28 in the front 32 in the rear (or something close cannot remember exactly). So it could have been an over inflated tire which would do that exact thing. I also have yokohamas and they seem to do fine

When cars are shipped, they overinflate the tires. They probably forgot to deflate the tires a little bit when they did the PDI. I found my tires to be a little off as well when I got my tC.
Under inflation can cause sidewall problems, as it puts all the weight of the car on the sidewall, and not on the pressure of the air inside the tire.
I don't know how you could have a failure going all the way around the tire, and only on the sidewall, without an underinflation condition. Maybe some other factors contributed too, but its a pretty safe bet this guy is going to be told his tire was not properly inflated.
