Default mystery bolt

When i came home today from classes tonight, the dude i stay with found a bolt that was in the spot where i would park my car. At first it seemed like it didnt belong to my car. But now im started to worry if this indeed came from my car. Here are a few pics i took of the bolt. Mind you i took these pictures from a camera phone so the quality isnt all that great. Thanks in advanced.

-Mark

that was my first thought... but it's raining outside, so I'm not about to crawl under my car with a flashlight. To me it looks like somone else's plug for some kind of fluid resovoir.

if it was an oil pan drain plug, wouldnt that mean i would leak oil? Oh also its metal not plastic so i would rule out the fluid resovoir. Keep them comming though. Thanks everyone

No need to crawl under your car.. just grab a light and poke it under there.. also if its your drain plug pull your stick and see how much is on it.

that is not your oil drain plug, you would have no oil. this also isnt octagon or hex shaped, its circular. theres no chance its a drain plug.

i honestly do not know where its from, but from all the work ive done on a tC, i have never seen a bolt that looks like that

i wouldnt worry about it

maybe it came from their accord. They have a newer honda accord. I gonna stop by the dealership later on during the day. I wonder if they will try to bs me or actually help. For any one wondering what it is. I'll keep you informed.

Default mstery bolt

No mystery, its a pipe plug. We use them a lot at work. ( 31 years in Industrial Maintenance) Perfect example is in the photo ProshopXB posted. They are used in numerous applications. If it was clean (not oily), I doubt it came from your car. Someone dropped it and your roomy found it. Or someone is trying to mess with your mind. If you are still concerned, carry it to a hardware store and see if it a standard plug. It would have to be metric to come from your car. Metric plugs are not common in a hardware store. It is hard to tell the size from the photos because the pen is behind it instead of beside it. A ruler beside it would be a better size refference. It looks too clean and NEW to be from your car.

I'm no expert, and I don't know what it is ... but this one statement sums it up for me:

Those are plugs that go on top of a differential, they are removed to fill the tranny. I'm guessing you have a 5-speed.

After class today i stopped by the dealership to see what it could have been. The first thing the noticed was that the bolt or plug was too clean and new looking to have came out of my car. Secondly they also said they use hex openings and not square. So all in all im sure that it was just something loose in the garage that just rolled under there. So everything is fine.

Thats a cat plug for the 02 sensor bung. I have 10 of those in a box from new cats. When you get a new catalytic converter with an option for the 02 sensor, the manufactuer puts a plug in the 02 sensor bung. When we install converters, we have to remove it for the 02 sensor. Mystery solved. :D
