Default need help..something tapping

its a 08 scion tc.after a drive around town and you park the car with the motor off, the motor makes a tapping noise, more like a pin drop.is it natural for new car or something else. i use to have a 89 240sx and it doesn't sound like that.

My moms car does this (not a scion) but mine never has. I would imagine it is just the engine cooling down and nothing to worry about but you might want to wait for a 2nd opinion.

It's normal for any car I've ever owned or driven. It's just the metal contracting as it cools down.

As Rod said, the metal in the engine, really the heat sheilding of the exhaust normally, cools and contracts, causing the pinging.

yeah it is just the heat shields and the exhaust contracting as it cools. Normal.

Lol the '89 240 prob didn't have any heat shields left and the exhaust was so old that it had lost it's elasticity.
