Default need some opinions.

So i have an 06 tc and it recently hit 70000 miles. I purchased the car around 60, and whoever owned it used regular oil. Now that it's getting closer to 100k i am debating on changing over to synthetic oil. Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions? I dont have much work just Injen intake converted to ram air, full exhaust. Also, the injen intake is converted to a Ram Air, and is always hot. Is this ok?

You should be all good. BUT, do at least 3 cycles of blended synthetic before switching over. An of course you know, once you switch you can never go back.

That is a very common bit of misinformation, but it is absolutely, 100% nonsense. You can switch from conventional to synthetic and back every other oil change if you want, and it will not harm your vehicle one bit. There's lots of bs out there about it, but it boils down to one fact: oil is oil.

Sources: I have 3 ASEs and worked for years as a service advisor.

Agree with above, my opinion , no scientific research to back me up but I have switched without problems.

i have heard that "oil is oil" but why not just pick one and stay with it. i do NOT run synthetic in my car because it has never had it in it. My dad has been a mechanic for about 30 years and he has told me to not go back and forth. Also, a friend of ours is a crew chief for a pro mod nhra team and he has always said that you cant go back once you change. his reason was that once the synthetic oil has touched the seals and gaskets it causes them to expand ever so slightly (which is fine) but once you go back to conventional oil the seals and gaskets will shrink back to their normal size and there is a greatly risk for small oil leaks. this is just what i have been told, i have no proof of these claims other than the people that i have been told by are very experienced with cars and building engines and i take their word for it. I would definately not reccomend switching back and forth on every oil change because that just doesnt make sense at all.

I've heard the same from a lot of people, including my dad who has been a mechanic for .... i don't know how long. (pretty long) Besides Why would you want to switch back? synthetic can handle higher temperatures then regular oil, an can last a lot longer. An those are facts!
Its really up to you (tcdays123). everybody is going to have there opinions (an we all know about opinions... they are like ________ everybody has one

you can switch back and forth without it doing ANY harm. The only reason people would think that you shouldnt switch back and forth is because you have an oil leak in which case if you have been using dino oil and switch to synthetic it could cause a bigger oil leak since the synthetics has high amounts of cleaning detergents that could clean out the sludge and grime that filled the cracks or holes left by the dino oil in which case after doing the switch it would seem that the synthetic had done some harm to ur engine.

Actually there are alot of modern conventional oils that has been proven to work (from UOA's) just as good as most synthetics out in the market right now. Now days the only real good reason to even go synthetic motor oil is for the longer drain intervals. But if your changing ur oil every 3-5k miles conventional>synthetic.

You can switch all you want, it won't do any harm. Like its been mentioned if you HAVE an oil leak and switch, you will notice it more with synthetic. People stop spreading b.s. about oils. I've had 5 ASE certifications and worked as a mechanic for 3 years before moving on.

The intake, the pipe will always be hot. However since you made it a ram air, you're sucking in hot air and not adding crap but sound. No reason not to run the full Injen because the only way water can get up there is driving through a lake.

Thank you everyone for the help, i truely appreciate it. I will not be switching back and fourth every oil change so that wont be an issue. Im sticking with the synthetic. and yes, mobil1 FTW!

But when i used the cold air, i had a problem with idleing. So i converted back to ram air just to be safe. Plus it was a rainy day. I get nervous that im going to seize my engine.

Once again, in order to seize your engine you need much more then a raindrop to touch the filter. And with the location of the filter, you would need to sit in a puddle/lake up to your headlights. They also make bypass filters in case you do take a dip in a lake. This is just one of the biggest myths about intakes, people don't understand how much water it takes.

What problem was there during idle?

just wondering, is there a problem switching between brands of synthetic oils? I usually just go to Kragen and buy the oil that's on sale whenever I need an oil change. Sometimes it's mobile1, sometimes it's castro, but it's all synthetic, will it cause a problem??

No, its just like switching brands of regular oil. It all does the same job, just some better then others.
