The Civic has less torque, and harnesses its 197hp only at redline. The tC has torque to boot, and it uses all of its 160vhorses at 5700rpm, which is under the electronic limit, and well under redline. I'm not sure what the mileage is on the Si, but i've read that it uses premium gas. That's a huge downfall in my opinion.

my heart goes to honda so my opinion is the si plus the fly-by-wire and nav are very cool selling points.

the si uses regular unleaded. Premium is usually reserved for V6's and larger or F/I. Personally i think u should go with what u want more. I chose the tC becuase i saw better potential in it (and the Si wasn't available yet). But if i had to do it again today...i would still take the tC

Fly by wire? You mean just like the tc has? I prefer a cable myself, but the cable-less system is good too.

The si will walk us. Not just by power (although it has less torque, it can run very solidly up at redline) but also by putting it to the ground better via the lsd. The lower tq and the need to keep the rpm up means the 6 spd is put better to use.. but, if you are looking at straight line performance the extra shifting is not as nice (which is why big, torquey v8's are so nice.. taller gears can be utilized).

Over all, the si will outperform us.

However.. as much as they have improved the looks, I still like the tC better in that dept. The tc also has more features stock.

You can definitely make the tC haul **** with the new and more reliable parts coming out, but if you want out of the box performance the si would be the way to go.. but it would be a tough choice either way imo. In the end, you need to drive them both and make up your own mind. Dont let anyone else sway you too much. Just get the facts and make up your mind so you will be happy. They are both great cars.

Actually, premium is reccomended for high compression applications, regardless of engine size. And the si does require 91 octane fuel.

I am guessing that is what you were reffering to. Throttle by wire is what many refer to fly by wire. True "fly by wire" type systems are in the works, but I dont think any are approved yet. Those are completely electronic steering and throttle.

The tC has no throttle cable, it is all electronic.

the steering?? you're confusing me.

anyway, i'd go with the si, it beats the tc in every way except price. i would take an si over a s/c tc as well.

I'm curious as to why you wouldn't take the S/C'd tC over the Si? The Si puts down 197hp at the crank which is probably around 155-160whp with diddle for torque where as the S/C helps put down around 195hp to the wheels (without exhaust / headers) and has a bit more torque. And it would still be cheaper than the Civic Si...so why would u come to that decision...just curious?

cars are not always about speed, there are many other factors to consider. don't get me wrong, i love my tc, but the si drives way nicer than my tc and the tranny is just sex compared to our gearbox. plus, a s/c tc barely gets into the 14s which is what the si runs. and how would a s/c tc be cheaper than the si? the tc right now brand new is $16,940, then you add the s/c which is gonna be somewhere in the range of $3,500 installed which brings your total to about $20,500 while the si stickers at $20,290. you also have to keep in mind scion is pure priced while honda is not. the si drives better and outhandles the tc. it will outperform the tc in every category. have you driven the new si?

Yes i have driven the Si. It was uncomfortable, but the inside was a bit more pleasant to look at. I don't like the look on the outside though...looks more like a hybrid than a sports car. And it doesn't out perform the tC in every way...Unfortunately i can't remember the magazines...it was like 3 different ones too, all said that the tC outhandled the Si and after driving it i agree. Now, the Si that is 20, 290...does not include the Navigation option and all the other stuff that makes the Si so sexy. It is the base model...But i do agree that the gearbox is sexy...i love the 6 speed. This is all just my opinion and i am not trying to flame you or anything, i was just curious as to why u would choose the Si still over the tC S/C'd. To each their own

Well Friday I go get the car. I don't know which one yet but I'm leaning towards the SI because I'm not trading in my TC its paid off already and my sister is keeping it. I'm still going to get to drive it, but the final decision comes when I test drive the SI thanks of all the imput though i appreciate it. Its going to be hard giving up my r.s i love the car and I know for a FACT that it looks WAY nicer then the SI but we'll see how it goes.

Thats funny I tried to buy an Si prior to getting the tC. And as far as out the door pricing it was up 24 thousand dollars .. not including the 2k feez plus whatever I had. My friend bought the Si the next day and got it out the door (w/o Navi) 26,000. Still a bit too pricey on a CiViC.

Yeah, the demand on the si gives dealors the option to tack on a huge profit. And since there are people lined up they don't have to back down.

Given the price difference the tC is a better bang for the buck. If you truly care about performance I would go for the si because of the higher rev line (rotary blood). Either suspension can be changed to give better handling and the tC has a heavy glass roof. My tC is a stocky DD so for me its a cheaper better choice as my fun high-revving car is the rx7.

I really dislike the look of the new CiViCs. Waht unfair about the test drive is that the Si is being tested with 195hp stock, and you cant test drive the tC S/C'd. Unless you can find somone with the S/C that will let you take it for a spin your going to find the Si a class above the tC in the power aspect.

And your going to pay much more for the Si than you will for the tC + S/C, from my expierence Honda's dont get the bartering room seeing how they are in much more demand. Another decider for my purcahse was the power moon roof, i like open air

i've had two friends pay sticker on si's so it's not impossible, plus this was a little while back so i'm sure it's easier now.
