Default Need used TC pricing advice.

Okay, i'm thinking of selling my TC - it's been great for the last year (bought in July 04) but i want something different again - without getting the lectures on buying new cars and selling them so soon, i need some real advice on what it's worth (private party, not trade in).... of course theres always a catch - mine has 30k miles on it - obviously all freeway miles due to work (thank god for mileage checks!). It's a black 5 speed with only the floor mats and sub as options- no accidents, etc.. keep in mind that there are not many used for sale and even the used ones are selling for high prices - mine in total w/ taxes came out to just over 18,000 - thinking about the 14k area - what do u guys think?
Thanks ahead of time for the input

Check Kelly Blue Book (www.kbb.com) for a price in your area. Then check www.autotrader.com to see what they are selling them for in your area.

i appreciate the input - just my opinion but 12k is way too low - after owning over 15 cars i understand book value, however, i also understand market value - i.e. there is not many used TCs on the market and the ones that are, are selling for high prices (too high, actually) - check out autotrader.com and do a search. Though the mileage is higher, it's till a current year car in higher demand, i'm not asking TC owners what they would pay, but rather what they would try to sell it for. Again, i appreciate the input and welcome anyone elses input as well.
Thanks

KBB private party is 14,700 - kbb is always a bit on the high side though and edmunds doesn't have the TC on their site.. as far as autotrader - waaayyyy to hard to guage.. they are selling a lot of used ones for the price of new and i can't find any for sale with similar mileage. There are 9 used within 100 miles of me (this would include Chicago) the lowest is going for 16,900 w/ 7k miles and the other 8 are going for 18,000 or more w/ very little to no mileage.

i'm guessing it may be difficult to sell used at value price right now with the 06 coming out in a couple months and new 05s selling just a couple grand more than you are asking (30k miles is gonna hurt). it might behoove you to determine what you want to get and trade it at a dealer who will bury any potential upside down in the new loan. in the event there is no upside down, bite the bullet, the car is worth 12k to 13k.

do an average between KBB trade-in and private party value if you think the private party alone is too high.

that's the way i do it when i sell used cars that i've owned. if that's too high--post an OBO next to the prive you got, and be willing to shave a few bens off.

I agree with surfcity40. when I started to read your post I thought 4K less than what you paid, then I read the part about 30,000 miles. that's about 3 years worth of mileage for the average car. so 12k - 13k sounds more reasonable. but hey, post up on craigslist $14k and see if you get any takers.

Kelly Blue Book shows $16,600 Trade-In for me. That's with 1500 miles and...

6-Disc CD
Side Airbags
(lip) Spoiler

It does not include....

OEM Ground Effects Kit. (KBB needs to add this option)
Window Tinting
tC Scuff Plates
OEM Floor Mats

So, if I traded it in now, I would lose about $3500.oo plus tax/title/etc...

Thanks for the help you guys - i'm not positive i'm gonna sell it yet, but either way i don't think i'll be trading it in - still think the TC will hold value pretty well - maybe 13's is not unreasonable; 12 is - i may keep it for awhile after i buy another car, we'll see i guess

Because of the miles on the car I would say just shy of 14k. Mine has 11k miles on it and if I was to sell it today I would put it up for 14.5k.
And mine has a few mods as well.

Offtopic - Did you sell the 93 MR2 Turbo? I am selling my 95T... it's going up forsale today.

Yeah, i sold the MR2 years ago.. the list of cars below are just the cars i've owned over the years - i like the 94-95s - it can be hard going from a turbo car to a n/a unless you've had a lot of problems with turbos which can scare you off as well (for me it was the 93 mitsu gsx- what a p.o.s.!) Good luck selling you mr. -those are fun little cars!
