Default New tC Owner Help!

Hey guys, first post here. I've been saving for months and now i finally have a sizeable amount to put down on my much awaited Manual tC. However, i have a slight problem.

My insurance rate is much higher than normal (couple of traffic incidents a few years ago) so unfortunately insurance comes into play with me purchasing a new car.

Does anybody know if (compared to other cars similar to it) the tC has a relatively high or low insurance rate? Any information would be appreciated and i apologize if this has been a topic before but i didn't see it on any of the first few pages.

Thanks in advance.

Well I pay about 1200 every 6 months. That is full coverage with roadside emergency. However that is after a 20% discount b/c we have another car insured with geico. I had one ticket about 3 years ago, so at this point it does not play any roles. Keep in mind that new cars are always expensive to insure. Over time and with a clean record that price WILL go down.

Yea, these tickets were over 3 years ago so they should be going down when i renew, the problem is that until then i think i'm gonna be stuck paying over 4K a year. I'm pretty sure that no matter what happens i'm stickin with the tC though.

well, don't listen to people saying "I pay this" b/c a HUGE thing that determines how much you pay is where you live. age, driving habits, etc also play a part, but where you live seems to cause the biggest deal.

for us, the tC was listed as a 2-door hatchback. not sports-anything, just a plain 2-door hatch. as such, it was actually not much more expensive than my 1995 jeep cherokee was. think some people have been told it's a "sports coupe" or something like that, but the only thing sporty about it are its looks (and 2 doors?). 160hp isn't that high, 2900lbs isn't that light, it's FWD and seats 5. how is that a sports car?

hope this helps...

That's actually the exact type of answer i was looking for. I know i can be paying 5K a year on the same thing someone else could be paying 2K on... but those circumstances are actually exactly what i need to know. Which features on a car most greatly effect insurance rates.

Be sure to shop around. Find the best price. I'm paying 650/6mo for full coverage $500 deductible. But I have another car insured, pluse make sure you tell them it has an immobilizer chip which should get you a discount on comprehensive.

I'm paying about the same as I did for my 1999 Cavalier (2.2 L).

Actually, Geico will look back 5 years, not the customary 3 like other insurance providers. That's why I don't use them or Progessive. 3 years, good driver. 5 years, fast driver.

You may want to check around also.

I was afraid of the same thing when I bought mine, as I had a DUI about 4 years ago and I'm 26. But I found out there is an ENORMOUS price discrepancy among insurance carriers. I ended up going with AIG, for about $900 for 6 months, and I live in a high theft area of california so few people should have higher rates than I. They only look at the last 3 years, even for DUI's and worse. They were way cheaper than the broker I was going through before, and they have good customer service and I've got 500 deduct., and 25/50/25 coverage.

Well I think I have you all beat, haha in Southern California (San Diego area) im 18 and still live with my parents (was 17 when purchased my tC) and put a parent as the primary driver (with very good driving record)(I use AAA). And I am paying entirely for the car myself financing through the bank.

I pay $30 a month for my first year (we pay our insurance on a yearly basis and we just payed it a couple months before I picked up the tC so they pro-rated it) yes thirty.... next year it will be 60. Oh and this is complete full coverage with roadside assistance. (oh and I have no tickets, never even been pulled over *knock on wood* because I do some pretty stupid shi* when I'm driving.

progressive has given me the best rate. they only check your last 36 months. i have had my license suspended twice when i was 18. its been five years and ive only had my license for 8 months so its as if i am a new driver. im only paying $989 for 6 months. ive done alot of shopping and suprisingly enough i can get the same rate for the tc as i can for a new 350z. in any case progressive is the cheapest.

They are f'ing d!cks at progressive, 1 minute late on your payment and they will cancel your policy, and then offer to start a new one with a new down payment, PLUS the balance on the old policy (literally I called them at 12:02am, two minutes after my payment was due and they did that crap).

New Jersey - stolen car capital of the world last I heard. I had a friend get her car stolen from in front of the PATH station into NY. She was parked on a 4 lane road underneath a streetlight FFS!

Anyhow, what was said earlier is pretty much correct. The Scion will fall in line with other 2 door hatchbacks. I got insurance quotes on a Focus 3-door (2 door/hatch) at the same time I got quotes on my tC and at all the insurance places I called they were essentially the same or within a few dollars a month.
