Default Newbie with some questions and opinions wanted

Hey all... I've honestly been surfing these forums for at least 3 hours a day the last few days as I am in need of a car... Here is my dilemma ....

My car is currently a 4dr '92 civic... but I get the honor of driving my dads '00 camry sometimes

I was honestly trying to hold out for the new lexus is350, but don't know if I can wait that long. I can afford a car up around 40k, so I'm also looking at the g35/TL, but have yet to test drive anything other than a rsx/solara. (parents made me test the solara).

There really is nothing that *really* captures my eye that I really want that is out right now, (wish the is350 was coming out in coupe this first years model) so now I'm seriously debating buying a tC, modding it out a bit, audio, etc, and keeping it for 2, maybe 3 years, then selling it off and getting a nice fast car around 40k or more at that time.

Any opinions on this? I don't know if this is a stupid azz idea, or you all think it's a decent one. I do like the look of the tC though.
___________________

Also, this probably is going to sound retarded, but I see everyones excited about the supercharger coming out... can someone give me the quick gist of what it does and if it can even go on, let alone a good idea to put on a automatic tC? (I'm in bumper-to-bumper daily)

I appreciate any feedback and am loving these boards as there's tons of activity...

Thanks all...

-josh

I would say that if you can easily afford something higher, keep shopping. However, the tC is a nice car for a good price, so you could definitely put a lot of mods on it for your budget. You'd just have to drive it, get some opinions on what people have done to theirs, etc.

Dude 40K will make one helluva tC! $16K for the car with $24K in mods damn!

Other cars you should look at:
2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe (like you stated, my #1 choice)
2006 Evo 9 MR (hella fast)
2005 WRX STi (overall great car)
2005 RSX Type-S

Test drive all of these (except the Evo, not out yet, test drive the Evo 8 MR), but the G35 Coupe gets my vote.

G35 = Rebadged Skyline

I think you should 1) learn to drive manual, and 2) buy the new lotus

Oh yeah I guess every car I listed was stick. Oops! But seriously any dealer will teach you if you're serious about buying their car. I drive daily in some of the worst stop-and-go traffic there is and absolutely love driving stick. It's great if say you're barely cruising in 3rd gear and you see a lane opening up and dump to 2nd and gun it. Man that's fun!

If you got 40K to spend, and driving stick is your dilema, you should get the new Lexus GS 300. I think those cars are gorgeous. If I was in the market, I would get that over anything else.

I think the TL is a really nice car too!

I know that i pay a *lot* more attention when I'm driving stick then when i'm driving an auto. Plus, I love having the tC in stop/go (read:No Va/Dc/MD traffic). keeps me from getting bored. just my three cents (inflation).

borrow a friends car. hell, pm me and *i'll* teach you to drive. if you are looking for a 2 door, 2 seater, your best bet is gonna be the Lotus. It's a souped up Celica 1.8/celica 6speed. If you're looking for a 2 door coupe, obviously the Lotus is *not* what you want.

What's wrong with being chatty? I tell you what, drop 2 grand on me and I will research all of these cars and determine which on is right for you. Trust me, I know what I'm doing. Ask anyone on here.

yea, coupe =) i've seen a couple of the lotus' in the fairfax area actually... i dunno why, but they remind me of the alien bugs from starship troopers

yea, amazingly NONE of my friends have manuals around here... the only ones that do seem to be girls i get involved with (only for a short while)... go figure.... and for some reason i'd feel much more comfortable learning driving stick from a guy than a girl.. call me crazy

i might have to pick you up on that offer ;)

ummm if he never has passengers and under 40k to spend, nobody's mentioned the 350z? The G35 is way better than the Acura TL, I've driven and ridden in both countless times and there's just one thing to say about the TL... 270hp + front....wheel....drive.....

my brother in law owns a TL and I can drive it whenever I want if I ask, he doesn't care and doesn't drive it often at all. If I was going to get a car out of those it would defiantely be the G35. without a doubt.

But everyone's forgetting about the chrysler 300C STR8. Sorry to say but that's most likely going to be my next car if it's still around in a few years. That thing is a marvel. Motortrend car of the year 2005 and rightly so. Probably the best car around for 35K, fully loaded with nav, audio, side airbags, HID's and everything else standard for under 40k. (the SRT8 model will obviously be higher, usually by 5k)

I'd say with that to spend you should test drive a 300C, the base model chrysler 300 cost's 25k

BTW where the hell do you get having $40,000 to spend on a car when your "parents made you test drive a solara" and your dad owns a 2000 camry? on a 5 year financing it would cost you around $675/mo for a 40k car. Don't know about you but that's about half what I take home a month, and a couple hundred dollars a month on insurance... do you live, eat, sleep and pay bills for free? If you're working and living with parents, think about it that you'll still be paying about $800/mo for a car on your own... that's more than most families spend on mortgage for a large house

financial experts say you should *never* spend more than 1/3rd of your monthly take home on a vehicle if you have standard bills to pay... period. Going on that my car payment's less than 1/5th what I take home... and I get paid crap for my job.
