NorCal tC needed for product development
Calling all NorCal tC owners! Weapon R is keeping the ball rolling and producing more parts for you tC owners, but we need a volunteer car for R&D purposes. Though we are actively trying to acquire a tC of our own, we didn't want to have tC owners wait for more performance products.
The next products to be made on our list are Cold Air box, and Headers. It would take about 3-7 days to fab up these prototypes. Anyone who is willing to let us borrow their car to prototype these parts will recieve the final product for free! And as always, we're open to suggestions for new products. Please feel free to contact me by email, phone,
or AIM: racetek82

You will be asked to leave your car here for about a week while we fabricate prototypes for the new products. When the new production pieces are made (usually 2-3 months), you will be provided with one of each product that you helped develop at no cost to you.
I live in San Mateo and I am interested. My question is this though, will the headers void my warranty? If anything I'd be up for helping you test the CAI. Also, do you only want 5-speed, or is an AT ok?
If he was making a body kit...sure...but I dont think making a cold air box is gonna hurt your car....and making headers...well all they do is take your stock ones out and put them back...Great opporunity. If I had the $1800 to ship my car to and from Cali or if I wanted to put 5000 miles on my car in a month...I would already have it out there.
yeah, this is a winning business model for product development:
1. borrow some unsuspecting guy's car, promise him lots of free goodies.
2. drive it around for a week like you stole it;
3. design a half-assed intake and cold air box for it that leans out the engine;
4. drive the car into a wall, causing all kinds of damage;
5. do some dyno testing and when the results aren't impressive enough, a little photoshopping to support your claims that it makes +20HP.
6. return the car to the owner, still jacked up, acting like you done him and all of the car community a huge favor.
think carefully before you loan your car out to these guys, or to anyone that asks. If they're a big reputable company, why can't they afford their own test car or work out a sponsorship deal with a dealership? yeah it's attractive if you've got no cash and want some free mods, but consider the possible consequences if they f--- up your ride.

Do you NOT know who WeaponR is? You act like they just popped on the map. You can sign contracts and write down your mileage. And do you actually think that ANY company can afford to buy every make and model of vehicle they make parts for?? Hello......
i just checked it out, they are pretty cool, they said that my car wouldnt be driven at all and i can write down the mileage, they are gonna keep it in the warehouse where they do the fitments, and when it comes time to dyno im gonna drive it and do the dyno run.
I know exactly who WeaponR is... seems like I know more than you in this matter. I speak from personal knowledge, just trying to warn some local people about some shady practices. A contract or a piece of paper with your mileage on it, that is real comforting when you find yourself dealing with your insurance company and going through the pain and inconvenience of repairing your car because someone else screwed with your ride. But hey if you can do without your car while it is getting dismantled and reassembled, and all you care about is getting some free stuff, go for it.
so Pmok, what exactly are these shady practices that you've experienced first hand? i would like to know specifics so i can decide whether or not to go ahead and let them R&D my car. that would be a big help if you tell me exactly what happened?

hey lvnurs9 you have the WR intake on your car correct? how did they R&D your car in South San Francisco if you live so far away that you would have to have your car shipped here?! i just talked to Ray and Leo about the testing. im not so sure if i want to do it becuase you claim to have helped with R&D yet you live far from here?
I don't know about lending my car to them but, with all the money Weapon R have made, I truly honestly think that they can afford to buy a test car for themselves. Also, about the mileage thing. There are plently of ways about going around that. I mean its not thier car, they could cut the odometer off and reattach it when they return it to you. You just never know.

As far as getting our own Scion tC, like i said, we are actively working with Scion/Toyota to acquire a test tC, as well as a few other cars. But this most likely won't be happening till the beginning of next year, which is the reason for us scouting for volunteers, we want a head start on these products. Why do we not just buy a retail tC? Well consider the amount of different applications we cover, the cost of a car is not a minor thing to do for each new application. Sure we could sell the car back out when we're done, but given depreciation rates, it definitely would not be cost effective. If we chose this route, we would not be able to bring you the products that we do at the prices that we do. We are not the first and only company to follow this R&D practice. Even the beloved AEM uses customer cars for prototyping and testing (i.e. AEM's EMS)
Pmok, I'm personally very sorry for your bad experience here. If I was with the company at the time, I would most definitely would have made sure you were taken care of and got full compensation.
sorry Ray but as you stated you don't have all the details, and sounds like you may have been misinformed as to the details you have stated. But whatever, it's all in the past now and I won't argue about it - just wanted to educate other potential customers about my past experience.
That's very nice of you to assure that things have improved or that you guys learned your lesson from past mistakes. Well you know what, there is something that you guys can help me with, in fact it is related to the products that you put on my car. So I will put you to the test, I'll give you a call and see if you really do stand behind your company's work and are willing to take care of your customers. Not to worry, it's actually pretty minor, but if you can help me out I'll give you a thumbs-up as a cool guy to work with and let the past be the past. Think of it as an opportunity to show some goodwill and improve your image.
