Default Normal Revving When car is warming up?

Hello..just wonder if anyone else has a Manual tC and when you warm it up in the morning it starts off high and works it's way down. But in the mean time sometimes it goes...VRROOOM slightly then goes down..then goes vrooommm then goes down..and you can hear it slightly revving...is that normal?? i have been having idiling issues with my car and was just wondering.

That is normal the guages are designed to bounce to the top and then settle down. It is in Scion website under tC brochure:

I noticed something similar this morning, but I think its fairly normal.

My car started right up, and idled around 1k until I let the clutch out in neutral. I got out of the car and the engine gradually lowered itself to about 750, 800.

I didn't have any unusual rev spikes though.

That is when you turn the key. I am talking about when the car is on. That is bounces then drops then bounces then drops. And when it does that you hear the motor going vroom...vrooom....vrooomm..it's odd i am telling ya'll HA! i have an appt with a District regional rep..so we'll see what happens.

i think i kinda know what your talking about...just yesterday, i noticed something wierd. i started it up and it was at an elevated idle(normal) then it kinda dropped a little when it started to warm up...then all of a sudden it revved up to 2000 rpm for about 2 seconds and then dropped down to about 1100 rpm...i don't know why

i did notice today that with the electronic throttle control, you kinda have to watch your tach from day to day, especially when the weather changes, today, i found myself letting the clutch in at 2000 rpm, a couple of times it was almost 2300 rpm when i let the clutch in, i was just driving like i normally do, the gas pedal was just alot touchier today. idle was normal though. usually i let it in at 1500 rpm and i know how much i have to push the gas to get it up to that rpm, today was different. it was warmer yesterday not much humidity, today it's cold and humid and really windy.

anyone want to explain this to me?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! odd! yeah mine did that before too! i was sitting there if finally dropped down to 1rpm then all of a sudden mine revved to 3rpm! by itself! then it dropped to 1 then it revved to 3 again!! i was like WHAT THE HELL! it done scared me! i have been havint trouble with the idiling in my car and have been complaining to toyota for almost 2 months now. I finally have a case with scion and am having the regional rep come out the 24th to check my car personally. I hope they fix it. What's happening is that every now and then when you come to a stop my idles (watching tach) drop down below way below 1 almost to the 500 the line before 0. It makes the car shake BADLY! like it wants to stall..the clutch is all the ways in and i am just sitting there and it's doing this...it's concerning me since it's happening more often now. Of course they wont fix it until they expierance it personally which sucks. So i have a list almost 2 pages long of how many times it's done it. Time date what gear. So we'll see what happens.

It sounds normal.. When I 1st start my tC the idle is around 1500 to 2000 rpms.. after I get it on the road and warm her up she idles around 500 RPMS..

It doesn't bounce though, its a gradual drop as she progressively warms up..

and I have a 5-Speed.

possibly go into the dealer and have them adjust ur idle if you do not like how it is at. its a simple loosening-tightening of a set of nuts and all all set.

ARe you sure because the cars are computer controlled now. That wont explain why all of the sudden the RPMS drop out and make the car shake.

well, mine just plain wouldn't start tonight. last time it did this, it was pretty cold outside. it would crank the starter, but nothing would turn over. i thought it was related to the transponder key, i have alot of keys and key chains and that suppossedly can interfere.
tonight, i went to a concert, so i locked my other keys in the car and just brought my key with me...it cranked for about 5 seconds...then i stopped and waited a second, it cranked for another 2 seconds and started up a little rough, after that it was fine.
my car has 700 miles and i had the clutch all the way to the floor and i was in neutral, no devices were turned on, so minimal battery drain if any. the weather was cold and damp
why is this happening? i'm not the only one

Long story short take it to the dealer it shouldn't behave that way.

When you start the car it should rev at close to 2000 rpms and then slowly drop in stages. The reason it does this is it's running in "open loop" to get the engine components up to operating temperature safely.

Usually, this happens if your clutch isn't fully depressed. But, like you said, your foot was to the floorboard. Maybe its a clutch issue.

Whenever the clutch is depressed, the car is technically in neutral, since you don't have a gear engaged. I understand you're referring to neutral stick position, but its just sounded a little silly.
