Oil Change
I need to change my oil. The maintence required thing came on but theirs no oil filters out for the tc at auto stores. The dealership where i bough my tc sucks on service so I don't want to go back there. Could i use a 2.4 camry oil filter since its the same motor? and would my maintence required thing go away or do i have to take it to the dealerhip to get them to take it off with a special tool.
Camry filter will do, you can also buy filters from online retailers in bulk - that way you will have a toyota filter for about $3-4 and in case somthing happens dealer can't blame it on aftermarket filter.
As for resetting the maint req'd light:
The accumulated vehicle distance memorized in the meter ECU can be reset by the following procedures.
1) Turn the ignition switch ON and make sure that the LCD is the odometer display.
2) Turn the ignition switch OFF. While pushing the “TRIP” meter reset ****, turn the ignition switch
ON.
3) Until the resetting is completed for at least five seconds and the LCD counts as shown below. Release
the “TRIP” meter reset **** when the resetting is completed.
4) After the resetting is completed, the LCD displays as follows for one second. Then, the LCD displays
the odometer.

Unless a dealer or manufacture is willing to provide filters (oil, air, fuel ect ect) for free for the life of the warranty they can't by law void your warranty.

Javastan, what makes you think that? My understanding is the Customer is obligated to maintain a vehicle in the manner Toyota states in the "maintence guide", It specifically states that the products must be Toyota parts.
In other words, technically if someone put a FRAM oil filter on their car it would could void the warranty. PRACTICALLY I do not EVER see any TOYOTA claims adjuster makes that decision, but It's their choice if they wanted to in that senario.
Omer.

I learned that from working in the Automotive business for about 10 years. I know at least ford will not void the warranty if your engine is blown and you are using a Fram filter for example, but you do need some kind of proof you were doing maintence on your car, that is why it is good to save reciepts and keep personal records. Though my understanding of the law is that unless the place will offer you free maintence you are not obligated to go and put dealership parts in your car. VW could void your warranty because I believe they offer free oilchanged.
Fram is the devil
Do not buy their POS filters!
They have been known to fall apart internally and are made out of the poorest quality matirials out their. Plus their engineering stinks for they have the least filtering surface area of anyone out there.
