Default oil changes. anyone still using the 3,000 mile rule

if So.. DON'T. all you're doing is wasting oil and contributing to the excess oil usage. Our tC's have 5,000 mile oil change interval recommendations from Toyota. So forget the 3,000 mile rule. It's a myth.

just do what your owner's manual says to do. The whole "change your oil every 3000 miles" rule is a myth.

I run Royal Purple full synthetic and do used oil analysis to check up on the engine. I also do the TBN test till I see how long I can run that oil before it loses its additive pack. My next run should be around 5,500 and then a retest.

The tC should do fine with a good quality 5w-30 oil and a toyota filter with a change interval of 5,000 miles.

You're maint light is a reminder light-- It will come on automatically every 5000 mile interval, regardless of when you actually have your oil changed. You will need to manually reset it (if your dealer or mechanic doesn't).

Turn your key from the OFF position to the ON position while holding down the Trip meter reset button. Make sure your odometer is reading your actual mileage prior to doing this (and not reading Trip A or Trip B, or this will not work). Your mileage will show 6 0's then go back to your mileage and the Maint light will go off.

I do mine between 3k-5k, but usually right around the 3k mark.

I see a bunch of blogs that point to a site that points to a California government site, no real research. Where are your facts, man? How was this studied? What conditions, what was the size of the experiment, what was the control?

Its usually the filter that goes out before the oil does so if the manual says change at least every 5k you change at least every 5k. If you drive your car hard you won't be wrong changing the filter more often. Race cars change the engine oil, transmission oil, and filters at least every race. Pick something in between

I figured that out. But I didn't see a link to the research report (with data or at least a pie chart) on any of the pages linked. Is it buried in the archives somewhere?

totally wrong

Black or dark oil does not mean the oil needs to be changed or that it is bad
