I thought yellow meant speed up before it turns red. I guess i was wrong.

Here you can get tickets for slamming on the brakes on a yellow and stopping early. That causes accidents. You should fight this, you do NOT stop on yellow if you are about to enter the intersection. You will cause accidents and probably kill yourself doing this at a busy intersection.

 

Dosen't sound like stopping in the middle of an intersection b/c a light turns yellow is a smart thing to do. IMO

 

Nope, your supposed to stop if you have enough room to safely stop. Most cops will give you the benefit of the doubt.

nonononnononono......you want to hope that the cop DOESN'T show up, because then it'll probably be dismissed. In a situation like this it's your word against his, and if he's not there he won't be able to dispute your "the light was green and turning yellow as I went through" story.

 

You have to clear the intersection before the light turns red and you cannot accelerate to do so. So, as long as you didn't accelerate and you saw the light change from yellow to red in your rearview mirror (meaning you could not have been in the intersection when it changed red)...

i dont see the point of stopping or slowing down on a yellow light if your less than 10 feet from the intersection and going about 40. i think you will just cause more trouble slammin on the break to stop and may cause an accident if the person behind you is thinking your gonna run it and they are right behind you. most of the cops here don't really bother you if you go on a yellow light. but i do speed up a bit more when i know its one of those photo enforced lights. I hate those things!

I can beat that! I got a ticket for running a green arrow. Yes, a green light. I was making a left hand turn on a green arrow and as I went thru the light, it turned to a solid green. The cop claimed I fail to stop for oncomng traffic.

 

I'm sorry I can't believe the responses people are giving...he was speeding and made no effort to slow at yellow light...he had every right to get that ticket....

Cops don't always know the law all that well. I've gotten out of plenty of tickets because the police didn't know the law. In Georgia a yellow traffic light is purely a green light with a warning. It is there to inform you that it is about to turn red and you have to be out of the intersection before that. You are free to accelerate to get through the intersection (no speeding of course). I would definately fight it. Just hope the officer dosn't change the conditions and suddenly says the light was red.

 

Another old joke:

2 guys driving along, they come to a red light. The driver just blasts right thru, not even slowing down. The passenger screams "what are you doing?" The driver says "don't worry, my brother in law does it all the time..." This happens twice more til the passenger's totally freaked out, then as they approach a green light, the driver locks up the brakes and skids to a stop. Now the passenger is totally nuts "Why'd you do THAT???" The driver says "Cuz my brother-in-law might be coming the other way..."

And yellow actually means PUNCH IT!!!

The nice folks in driving school told me to look for the solid white lines just before an intersection. You know how the dashed white lane lines become solid a few hundred feet before the intersection? If the light turns yellow and you are behind the solid lines you keep driving, otherwise you must stop.



That’s the way it works in New Mexico at least.

 

no i was not speeding, it is still legal to go 5 miles over the speed limit... plus the ticket said nothing about me speeding or how fast i was going, but i was doing the speed limit...

theres no point in making an effort to slow down, i was already in the intersection...



the cop was an idiot rookie. there was another cop that came seconds later and they were talkin to each other for like 10-15 minutes... the cop who pulled me over was probably asking the other cop if its ok to give me the ticket, since he know that i know im right....

 

court happens on the 23rd of march


i got another court date next week for speeding. going 49 on a 35... im pretty sure i cant get away with that, but i can say i was atleast goin 10 miles over, tho the cop did not catch me by radar but cop claims she clocked me by patrol vehicle... so no proff of me speeding...

this is sucks
