Default opinions on the tc vs. competition

ok... this might be just me but iv been lookn for a car to replace my malibu to keep the mileage down on the srt....it seems to me that the tc's only REAL competition is the mazda3... and it ends up costing a bit more then id like... my question is why the hell would anyone buy a civic with this thing on the market....let alone a lancer, or a neon, or a focus only problem is finding one... my dealer just got one in this past friday but its stick and i want auto... other then that its the exact car i want right down to its BASE/BOTTOM OF THE LINE price id rather not have toyota flood the market with them but do u know wot its like to try and find one to test drive .. if anyone knows a dealer with some in westchester county ny please help me out, thanks!

So your question is....? Well I'm glad this didn't turn into one of those tC vs. [insert name of car that costs $10,000 more] threads.
Please...no more of those threads...please

reasons for not choosing a tC even though they arent justified.....
1. Civic is a well established car that has been around for a long time
2. Civic has swaps available
3. lancer = evo?
4. easier and cheaper to find focus parts.
5. easier and cheaper to find neon parts.
6. scion is a "new" company and hasnt established itself yet.

i dont agree with any of these but you get the idea.....
well, the civ is a good car but being around that long doesnt make it better in any way.

im glad you dont agree with any of them
1.the civic might have been around a while but so has the cavalier haha
2.who wants to buy a new car and then swap an engine???
3.yes lancer... evo isn't in the same universe as the tc
4.theres a reason its easy to find parts....cuz theres such a high demand for replacement parts on that POS
5.its so hard to rip on a car that is sorta one i own but ill just say that id rather have a civic then a regular neon and i hate civics
6.while scion is new toyota isn't as said above :D

thanks for the input, im not rippn on you just adding to the idea that there is no reason to buy any other car in the tc's competition....but theres somethin bout that mazda3 that makes me hesitate on the tc...i dunno

Sorry I can't read. Me fail English? That's unpossible.
I didn't see the question at the end. I don't know why anyone would buy a Civic, neon or focus. Well, Civics do hold a lot of their resale value and are very popular. But that's all.

Why choose another car?

#1 The tC is pretty damn heavy in comparison to everything else in the class. This adversly affects handling, especially to people who like to AutoX.
#2 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Weirdo people like Cybergypsy thinks its an ugly car, and I'm sure other people prefer the looks of other cars.
#3: Availability of four doors. Civics, Neons, Focus' and Lancers all come in a four door trim.
#4: Availabiliity of cheaper trims. 16k and change get you a hell of a lot with a Scion, but you can build almost all of those above said cars cheaper if you're willing to sacrifice a lot of options. Especially in the case of the Neon and Focus where rebates are easy to be found.
#5: People aren't familiar with the Scion brand. Its a two year old brand, and despite the fact that you and I know about it.... not a whole lot of others do.

Personally thought I love the Scion in comparison to the competition... the only thing that annoys the heck out of me is #1...

i wouldn't be bother by the weight, since the extra weight are on safety, i would think that's a selling point rather than draw back. the civic vp, lx got only 115hp and not much lighter than tC, i guess ex model power to weight ratio is worse than tC. i am only guessing, so may be wrong. personally, as long as tC get enough get and go power, i would be happy. since i am using tC as communite car, extra power won't get me there any faster (traffic).

again, tC is not for everyone, i miss the 4 doors on my old corolla. guess tC not suit my need perfectly, but for the price range, i won't get anything has the same price feature ratio as tC. i am happy with tC.

Civic gets 31/40 miles per gallon with air conditioner on easy. That is one area where the Civic is better.

i think that's overrated, my co-worker get a civic, driving as commute car, mostly high way drive (Tracy to San Jose, about 50+ miles one-way), got less than 34MPG. even corolla is over-rated in this case since my another co-worker get about 33MPG for highway drive, both of them drive less than 80 MPH on highway. in any case, civic have better MPG for sure, but not winning tC by a really big margin since i got about 29-31 on highway (75MPH most of time).

We have over 15,000 miles on our civic. It is the VTEC 127 engine though. The LX does not have the VTEC engine. For some reason the VTEC gets better gas mileage than the non VTEC. We drive 450 mile round trips often and easily get 39/40 on the highway with the air conditioner on.

Actaully, the 04 Focus ZX3 has the same engine as the Mazda3 (2.3L Duratec) and you can find those for about 13-16K depending on your options. The 05 ZX3's went back to the 2.0L engine but it's now a Duratec engine. The 05 Focus ST(the top model 4 door) now has the 2.3L Duratec and you can find those around 17-18K which is around the Mazda3 price. Despite what people are saying about the Focus being crap, which it's not unless you got a first year production like me in 2000, they are great cars and easy to work on.

scion is new but toyota has had the xA nd xB around in other countries before there arrival here. Toyota is rates the number one company for reliability and thats why their cars tend to cost just a little more than honda. But neither honda or toyota rebate their vehicles or drop the price. The reason you can get focus and neons for cheap is exactly that...they are a cheap car and you wouldnt find me dead in an american make. Though focus has got some good reviews, but still these cheaper vehicles are that for a reason and its worth spending a little more money on a toyota. And lets face it i just bought a tC and its an awesome value for the price i freaken love it. No way would i have bought a sentra, civic, celica, neon, focus, cavalier(sorry i mentioned that car hahah) or any other compact that would be competition. The only other car that i looked at was a Tib....hey its a nice car what can i say but i went with the tC.
