are our engines are similar to the elise???
i dont think this is a repost and sorry if its a dumb observation but i was looking at the lotus elise specs and noticed they use a toyota engine. It like a 1.7L i beleive but i also noticed that it has a 6speed tranny. Im not sure if the car is rwd or not or if itd even work but i wonder if its tranny would bolt up to our engine? Im sure that im just dreaming.........
Also it has 190hp and 133lbs of torque. not bad in a car that weighs 1984#s.
what do you all think?
I edited the title to show that i was confused. i didnt notice that i ran out of room for the ? mark.

The elise uses the Celica 1.8L, but it has been tweaked by lotus, including an Engine Management System specifically designed by toyota.
The car is ultra lightweight, and the handling is amazing. I came very close to buying one prior to the tc, but when I factored in that it would be an additional 6 month wait, and the extra $21,000 I would be spending could better be suited towards a house down payment, my decision got a whle lot easier

That engine would be very very slow in a tC. The torque numbers are garbage. Excellent if you have lets say a 1,900 lbs car. but stick that lil thing in our wide butt tC and you got yerself one nice moped. the 2.4 l is great for the tC. what it needs is a true DOHC, a 6 spd transmission, increase the compression ratio only a bit to about 10.1. The 2.4 liter is perfect for the car. Just needs to be tuned and have some true performance engineering done to it.
what do you mean, it doesn't have lotus specs? It's a lotus tuned, toyota built engine. Or did you mean, it doesn't have a lotus built engine?
The reason for the toyota engine was that lotus was unable to build something that produced the numbers the wanted, passed US emmissions laws, provided plenty of ummph, fit in the car, and kept the price point down. Toyota already had the 1.8 built, so Lotus just decided to use that, and rework it to their specs.

to clarify: I was asking if it had lotus specs on the toyota engine cause there was a time difference b/w opening the window and replying so I didn't see the the 2 posts above mine, I thought it did have Lotus specs but the people made it sound like it didn't
But anyways, sweet ride!

The bad information, bad grammar and bad reading comprehension in this thread is truly astounding.
At least Toastbox knows what's up.

ya, think that the Lotus uses the 1.8L VVTL-i engine out of the Celica. Now I'm just waiting for a 2.4 VVTL-i engine, producing maybe 220-240hp... drooool, I'd take that (and a 6 speed tranny) over a supercharger *or* turbo anyday.
When people say that it's a Toyota engine with Lotus Spec, you have to remember that Lotus spec changes things considerably. If I remember correctly, the redline is way higher (like 8k RPM) and I think they might have like... rebuilt the engines to a higher standard or something as well. Either way, the Elise is one cool car for driving. I'd hate to commute in it, but I've seen a couple on the streets up here and they sure look hot.

Cool video, with that helecopter...except for the whole "soft American underbelly" part.
