Default Outside Temperature

I like this feature that I can tell what the temp is outside.
My only issue is, mine might be off a little.....by +3.
When I drive by some Banks they have those signs that tells the time and temp.
Confirmed with 2 banks that mine shows +3. Where is the sensor located?
If it's in the vicinity of the engine then it could be why it is off??

I don't think you will ever find all temp the same. I am usually +2 to -2 degrees from what I hear on the radio or see on the bank signs. Sometimes I hit right on. Mine also changes from when I get into the car and when it has been going for 10 minutes or so. Just use it as a reference. Could be the tC is correct and the bank is wrong.

First of all having a thermometer in a car is not a magical new feature. Secondly, thermometers in two different locations are not going to read the same. The bank thermometers aren't in exactly the same position as your car thermometer. DUH! Have you considered that being closer to the roadway will result in a higher temperature reading since the roads trap heat energy from the sun and radiate it upwards. Car thermometers also always read high at first, because when the car is sitting still no fresh air is going over the thermometer, so the trapped heat from the engine causes the reading to be high until you have been going awhile.

Rocksteady. My tC is the same. Now that it's winter, I'll drive by banks and see that my sensor reads +3 as well.

Another issue (I wouldn't call it a problem) is that when it gets down into the single digits, the reading in my car doesn't seem to go below 13 degrees. --> So, that's the lowest I've seen mine go.

Mine has gone down to 9 degrees, so its either not that cold where you are or yours is broke.

the outside temp sensor is supposed to be just underneath the radiator.

hey i find crazy questions interesting.. keep 'em coming.. my temp gauge is usually either exactly what the temp outside is.. or -1 or +1 from those bank signs.. and who knows if they are really accurate?

the other reason that the temp gauge on the one post read 45 is because the sensor is next to the radiator.. when the car is parked.. bam! heat messed with the sensor.. it was 10 degrees here in michigan, came out to the car it said it was 58 degrees.. i had a good laugh..

the temp sensor although it is a nice feature does serve a functional purpose (other than telling you the temp).. it helps the air pressure sensor readings from the tires, because without knowing the ambient temp outside, the computer would throw a "low pressure" light anytime the temperature dropped or rose..

yes, this feature is not new in the tc but it seems like such a predominant feaure that stands out on the console...man other cars have the feature but is buried o a small botton most likely next to the clock

i use the feature everyday...just like to know
and once it shows 60 degreesor higher i open m sunroof

temp sensor was the first thing i noticed on the Tc. Pop the hood...the temp sensor is right in front of the radiator at the top on the left hand side...a little black round ****...with a wire going to it that joins the wires that lead to the horns (same harness) When you are stopped the heat from your radiators heat the sensor up...when you move the air passes over it and you get an accurate reading.

Ok, folks, let's discuss the temperature sensor, not personalities. If you have a problam with another user, take it to PM.

Yes, it does read with a negative sign. I saw it the other night ;-) ...not that I'm proud to see it. It's f*cking cold!

My temps seem to be pretty accurate...I too have seen the - sign, the other day I started my car in the garage, and because it had been inside, the temperature read 27 degrees....As I drove to work, the numbers began to drop, untill they reached -2. When I got into work, the national weather service online site said that it was -10 below...Maybe If I had to keep driving, it would have gone lower...I feel for those in S. California, who may never see the - sign...
