Default Paint chip repair

I know this is a lame question, but I'm really frustrated at the cheap paint Toyota is using on their products. Chips all over the place and in weird areas where I'm still wondering how a rock could rickochet and hit my car.

anybody have any req's on good products to fill paint chips?

Also the dealer sold me the paint (White in this case) and even in the instructions it says that after filling the chip to cover with Enamel . . . which DIDN't come with the kit. jeeeeeeesh

What gives??

anybody elso experiencing paint chip issues . . . even in normal driving?? Not constantly driving behind dirt trucks for example.

No, they do NOT happen on every car, nor should they. I owned a '97 Ranger for 6 years after it had been driven for 2 or three years by someone else. I put about 175K miles on it and it had ONE chip in the paint, and that was where a rock hit the leading edge of the hood hard enough to leave a quarter sized dent. I didn't even care, because it's a RANGER for crying out loud. Now, I've got a car that I give a $h!t about and I have to drive 35mph so the bugs don't chip the paint. Toyota uses sh*tty paint.

Well, a Ranger has a chrome bumper and sits higher than cars, with no paint anywhere other than the hood on the front. Also with it not having a sloped hood, it's easier to avoid paint chips. On most cars that sit lower and have a full painted front, they do chip normally.

I had a clear bra installed the day I bought it and it has done a good job so far. Other than that I can't think of anything else to prevent them. My sister's G35 looks like the front has been sandblasted. Same with my brother's Accord.

Another advantage of a ranger, actually, is that the paint doesn't suck. It's thick as hell, from what I've seen where I had the chip. Judging from the chips on my tC, the paint isn't even comparable. Admittedly, I don't know a whole lot about painting cars, but I know that the more thick-a$$ paint between you and bare metal the better. It seems simple enough.

I've seen the results of a daily driven G35 as well, and like you said, it's not pretty.

I'm pretty sure that wax isn't going to save my car from rocks, but if that is the case then I'm screwed. Washing my car generally involves hosing it off once a week. Once a month (MAYBE) I get to actually wash it. Waxing it usually involves NOT waxing it.

On another note, just to verify my previous point, I went years without washing or waxing my ranger. Actually I never waxed it.

I have to second the frustration of the cheap paint, I have so many chips if SI had to guess the count of them I would say30 some? I don;t think a car should be speckled in chips thats bs. plus these random ___ scratches that appear every now and then. I'm still afraid to touch up these chips so they remain there. I don't like the look of the touch up paint where you can clearly see where it was touched up so my touch up paint was a wasted purchase.

I understand what you mean, my car has a whole bunch of chips on the passenger side door and idk why the hell rocks hit there soo much. It drives me crazy and i think i'm just gonna have to get a new paint job and add some mud guards and hope i don't get the same result.

i have touch up paint and some "blob-b-gone" stuff that smooths out those awful touch up paint blobs. Works pretty good- I still get mad at finding new scratches and chips, but not AS mad.

Doesn't sound like rock chips- sounds like people opening their doors into yours.

Couldn't find something named exactly that but I found by google search two products that do something like this.

Found Here http://www.autogeek.net/langka-blob-eliminator.html
And Here http://www.autogeek.net/langka-paint...epair-kit.html

I may try it for the hell of it, 19.99 for the cheaper kit, maybe try it on a spot that can't easily be seen.

yeah even with a smaller #0 sable brush, you have to be extremely careful not to get that blob. I've been able to do it, but you can still see where the touch up was done.

okay sciontC you go try it, and let me know you'll be our guinea pig for this! But it does sound promising, joking aside.

I had to order it online, but when I got my touchup paint from Toyota they sell something similar. My bro's friend works in the parts dept and he said the stuff works. I tried the Blob Eliminator (I had already ordered it) and it works good. It blends the touch up paint into the original paint and smooths out the blob.

So what if you need more than a touchup, but don't want/need to take it into the dealer? Where can you get a can of spray in your car's color?

Oh, and official first post on scionlife..weee

idk where to can cans of paint, I've only ever seen the little tubes of car paint you can buy. If more is needed than a touch up job can fix, you may want to call the pros.

Now do you guys think that getting another layer of paint on it would help fix the thin paint problem? It shouldn;t be too expensive if you are keeping with the same color right???????
