Default Play in brake pedal

I had my front SS Lines replaced recently and the brake fluid flushed with DOT4. Also brake pads are in good shape with lots of pad left. I have been noticing that the brake pedal has much more travel until brakes engage than several other cars i've driven.

I don't believe I have air in the lines as once the brakes engage they aren't mushy or soft, i just have to push further to engage brakes. But maybe this is a symptom of air in the brake lines?

Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

what pads are you running? I had a similar situation when I had to switch to pep boys pads (It was Sunday and everything else was closed). After two years of dealing with the crap pedal throw, I upgraded to Centric premium rotors and EBC red stuff. Night and day difference. These pads probably have a much higher coefficient of friction at low temperatures. The amount of material left has little to nothing to do with brake feel (within reason of course). Brake feel is all about brake pressure from the hydraulic system and pad material.

Prior to changing the pads i was using EBC Greenstuff in the rear & Wilwood Pads in front. Now i'm using the same Wilwood pads up front and some cheapo set from Amazon in the rear.
Amazon.com: Wagner ThermoQuiet MX835 Semi-Metallic Disc Pad Set, Rear: Automotive Amazon.com: Wagner ThermoQuiet MX835 Semi-Metallic Disc Pad Set, Rear: Automotive

Could these cheapo pads in the rear be causing the play i'm feeling?

Sounds like a symptom of air in the brakes.
You will get a lot of travel if you haven't bled them right.
